The last two decades or so have seen a meteoric rise in popularity for the superhero genre across all forms of entertainment. This is in no small part due to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which continues to connect a plethora of movies, characters, and Hollywood stars on an unprecedented scale. But Marvel isn't the only one contributing to the genre's growing status. Animated shows like Amazon's Invincible, and upcoming video game adaptations like Invincible VS, are just as important.

Based on the Robert Kirkman comic that ran from 2003 to 2013, and the Amazon animated adaptation that's ongoing, Invincible VS is an upcoming 3v3 tag fighter that will see some of the series' most popular characters go head-to-head in an all-new medium. Seven characters are currently confirmed for Invincible VS' roster, including fan-favorite Omni-Man, whose design differs quite a bit from his appearance in Mortal Kombat 1.

The upcoming Invincible Vs and Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls may face competition from one another due to both being superhero fighting games.

Comparing Omni-Man's Visual Design

Omni-Man joined Mortal Kombat 1's roster in November 2023, acting as the fighting game's first post-launch DLC. Mortal Kombat 1's version of Omni-Man immediately stood out for its realistic visual design, which took the general look of the animated/drawn character and gave it a grounded makeover. As such, Omni-Man's face more closely resembled actor J.K. Simmons, and his body proportions were a touch more realistic.

Mortal Kombat 1's version of Omni-Man came equipped with his classic white and red suit, which he wore throughout the first few arcs of Invincible. Players could unlock a few alternate color schemes for Omni-Man, but his outfit would remain largely the same.

Invincible VS, on the other hand, is trying to match the source material as closely as possible, presenting players with a more stylized, cel-shaded Omni-Man that fans are used to seeing. But rather than don his white and red superhero suit, Invincible VS' Omni-Man is seen to be adorned with the white and gray tunic that all Viltrumites wear. It's currently unknown if Invincible VS' Omni-Man will have any alternate outfits.

Comparing Omni-Man's Performance

One of the biggest highlights of Omni-Man's appearance in Mortal Kombat 1 was that J.K. Simmons returned to voice him. Simmons has become synonymous with the character, and any future game or other Invincible adaptation that doesn't use his voice will likely come under some scrutiny from fans. Thankfully, Invincible VS won't have this problem, as it's confirmed Simmons will reprise his role once more for the upcoming fighting game.

Comparing Omni-Man's Moveset

In Mortal Kombat 1, Omni-Man's moveset primarily revolves around hard-hitting punches, and his ability to move at superhuman speed. His special moves see him activating a "Viltrumite Stance," which allows players to automatically dodge oncoming attacks for a short duration and teleport behind their opponent.

Omni-Man's Brutality sees him beating his opponent into the ground in a similar fashion to the sequence in Invincible Season 1's finale, and his Fatality is also ripped right from that episode, with it seeing him grab his opponent and slam them into an oncoming subway train.

Though Omni-Man can be seen for a good portion of Invincible VS' reveal trailer, it's mostly during cinematic moments and not actual gameplay. Omni-Man's moveset in Invincible VS hasn't been officially revealed yet, but it seems likely it'll follow in Mortal Kombat 1's footsteps and see the character using his superhuman strength to pummel opponents and his flight and speed to quickly reposition and catch them off-guard.
