While Injustice 2 has included a slew of wonderful fan favorites from the DC Universe and fantastic guest characters from other franchises as post-launch content, it's safe to say that the forthcoming addition of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – who are fighting as one – is by far the most exciting prospect for DLC yet. While fighting game aficionados patiently wait for NetherRealm Studios to release a trailer showcasing TMNT's abilities, the company's creative director, Ed Boon, recently shared a screenshot showing how their combat revolves around teamwork.
As seen below in the tweet from Boon, Injustice 2 fans can get a glimpse at two of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – Michelangelo and Raphael – delivering some of their trademark Turtle Power to Black Manta. In the image, Michelangelo appears to be winding up for a punch, while Raphael is on course to introduce a skateboard deck to the Aquaman arch nemesis' head. At this point, though, it's still somewhat murky as to how combat will work overall for TMNT.
For those unaware, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are the last to be added from Injustice 2's Fighter Pack 3, with the expansion package also including the likes of Enchantress and Atom. Previous Fighter Packs have somewhat loosely followed a formula when it comes to the characters being included, with two fighters having their origins in comic books, while the third and final figure came from the Mortal Kombat universe. Bearing this in mind, it's cool to see NetherRealm shake things up a bit with all of Fighter Pack 3 having characters who made their debuts in comics.
With Injustice 2 having been out for several months now, many fighting game fans may have gravitated away from it in order to play other new releases – namely Dragon Ball FighterZ. With this being the case, it will be interesting to see if the forthcoming introduction of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will cause lapsed players to return to the fold.
Injustice 2 is available now for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
