Though it's not all that rare to come across a visually interesting indie title, HEAVY looks downright striking in almost every way. Developed by just one person, this cyberpunk sidescroller is made unique by the fact that its primary inspiration lies in the works of Moebius, a legendary comic book artist with a unique approach to visual storytelling.
As difficult as it may be to keep track of all the exciting indie games in active development, HEAVY may well be one to keep an eye out for, even if only for its looks. The developer, going by the name of Eniac, is a comic book artist from Slovakia, and he cites a number of revered science-fiction IPs as sources of inspiration for HEAVY, such as Dune.
Eniac has been posting his neo-Moebius artwork and animations from HEAVY on one of the most popular indie gaming subReddits, giving interested game developers and potential fans a look at how the game is progressing. While there's no telling just yet how the game plays in action, much like the upcoming Bad Boro title, it's hard to deny the fact that HEAVY certainly looks distinctive.
According to what little information is available about HEAVY on the Internet via itch.io, it seems that it's going to be a cyberpunk Metroidvania of some sort, likely set in a distant post-human future. Though the history of Metroidvania development includes a wide variety of titles that could be mechanically similar, none of them look like HEAVY, giving the game a visual edge if nothing else.
Curiously, Delic has also been experimenting with NFT projects in regard to HEAVY, though these seem to be simple artwork collections rather than a more involved NFT integration with the game itself. Given itch.io's stance on NFTs in general, it seems highly unlikely that the game will ever include NFTs in any meaningful way, shape, or form, however.
Not much has been revealed about HEAVY so far. Eniac has posted a number of delightful character designs and animated videos showing off his work, but it seems that the project is still in its early production stages. Judging by the Moebius-like artwork that's been shown so far, HEAVY may well end up being one of those delightfully relaxing video games that are simply a joy to play. Or, in HEAVY's specific case - a joy to look at.
HEAVY is currently in active development, with no designated release date just yet.
