Even though nothing has been announced quite yet, there is a chance that the days of LEGO Indiana Jones have not come to an end quite yet. Not only has there been another film released since LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues, but MachineGames is also set to further expand the franchise with Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. That means that there are plenty more archeology adventures for LEGO Indiana Jones to adapt. However, there may actually be an even better direction for Traveller's Tales to take it.

While this may be unprecedented, LEGO Indiana Jones has the chance to follow in MachineGames' footsteps if it wants to try something new. Instead of simply adapting movies, Traveller's Tales could make its own mark on the iconic franchise by exploring a brand-new tale. It could further expand Lucasfilm's franchise in exciting ways while also letting players once again experience a LEGO-fied Indy adventure. And even if that sounds incredibly risky, it may be exactly what Indiana Jones needs right now.

LEGO Indiana Jones 3 May Want to Take a Massive Risk With Its Next Entry

The Indiana Jones Franchise Desperately Needs Some New Life

It is no secret that Indiana Jones is in a bit of a rough spot right now. Even though the original three movies will forever be iconic, the latest entries have failed to deliver. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was extremely controversial upon release, and although The Dial of Destiny was an improvement, it ended up flopping at the box office. As of now, it's hard to say what's next for Indy within the theatrical space, but MachineGames' upcoming adventure may be able to right the ship a bit.

MachineGames is set to deliver a brand-new Indiana Jones adventure later this year, and so far, it seems to be hitting all the right notes. The studio has seemingly captured the tone of the franchise and the gameplay does not look half-bad either. If it is able to succeed, then developers have cause to make even more Indiana Jones video games. And while MachineGames may end up leading that charge, Traveller's Tales could also contribute its own tale if it wants to try something new.

Indiana Jones May Find Its Future Within the Gaming Space

Now that Traveller's Tales has lost its exclusive access to the LEGO license, it feels like the perfect time for the studio to surprise its audience. Instead of simply making a LEGO Indiana Jones 3, it should really consider expanding the franchise with its own unique adventure that doesn't adapt a movie. That would not only give Indy fans something new to enjoy, but it would also let the studio break away from the template it has been using for decades. Even if it does not match the heights of its predecessors, it feels well worth the risk.

Telling original stories is not unheard of for Traveller's Tales; it just doesn't do it that frequently. LEGO City Undercover was a completely original tale within the LEGO IP and LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens was filled with various side stories that had never been seen before. There is seemingly no reason why it could not do the same thing with a LEGO Indiana Jones 3.

Up until now, LEGO Indiana Jones was one of the best ways to experience the franchise. Now that MachineGames is forging ahead with its own adventure, it seems like a great time for Traveller's Tales to do the same thing. And if both succeed, then the Indiana Jones franchise could be injected with new life, which may also help the movies in the long run.
