2020 will be marked as a bizarre year for the wrestling industry as a whole. With the WWE releasing many wrestlers, fans wonder which stars might pop up and where. At Impact Wrestling 's recent Slammiversary Pay-Per-View, fans saw the return of a beloved tag team.
The Motor City Machine Guns made their triumphant return at the event following an open challenge by The Rascalz. Chris Sabin and Alex Shelly reunited to take on Wentz and Dez in a winning effort following a pin by Sabin.
While the return was celebrated by fans, The Guns were not gone for all that long. The tag team, which was established in TNA Wrestling in 2006, only broke up in 2018. The separation of The Motor City Machine Guns stemmed from an injury and subsequent retirement. Shelly suffered a severe concussion during a six-man tag match at a Ring of Honor show. It was over a month later that Shelly would announce his retirement from the wrestling business.
Following the announcement of Shelly's retirement, Sabin proceeded into a singles career across promotions until returning to Impact in March of 2019 as a producer. The reuniting of The Guns had been a point of speculation for wrestling fans since Shelly's return from retirement in June of 2019. Considering Sabin's backstage role in Impact, he may have had a hand in the Rob Van Dam segment that got Impact Wrestling banned from Twitch, but that's just speculation at this time.
With The Motor City Machine Guns returning to Impact, some fans yearn for the duo to step into the All Elite Wrestling ring. Following The Revival's release from WWE and their debut in AEW, many fans are hoping for the dream match between the teams.
If the Guns are able to go to AEW, they may finally be a playable in a video game again. The last console wrestling game to feature the duo was TNA Impact! Which is not the greatest game in the history of the genre, to say the least.. So if The Motor City Machine Guns came to AEW, they might get the chance to be a part of the upcoming AEW video game, which could end up being better-received.
