Few games seem to be as omnipresent as Roblox. Originally released all the way back in 2006, Roblox has managed to stay at the top of the charts, providing fans with an incredible amount of freedom to create game modes, characters, stories, and worlds of their own. Roblox sees tens of millions of players daily, and frequently uses recognizable brands and franchises to help promote new experiences in-game. Roblox also relies on user-generated content, with the game featuring a wide assortment of modes for players to play. These game modes range from intense first-person-shooters to quirky mini-games. Over time, life simulation has become a popular way to play Roblox, with the game's latest collaboration leaning even further into the genre.

In a new partnership with Roblox, popular furniture brand IKEA announced it will pay players £13.15 ($16.78 USD) an hour to work in a virtual version of a store. This digital IKEA store will open as its own new game, called The Co-Worker Game, and will let players “experience working in IKEA’s virtual universe," according to the company. “Fans will be able to live their home furnishing dreams and get paid for it, with a limited number of paid roles available." A total of 10 positions are being offered, with successful applicants tasked with helping customers choose furniture, as well as serving them in the cafeteria.
Roblox Announces New IKEA Store
These digital employees will have the opportunity to move up through promotions, with IKEA's Country People and Culture Manager, Darren Taylor, stating the company is incredibly excited about this new experience, which joins Roblox's impressive list of other interactive and immersive game modes. “We’re excited to be the first brand to launch paid work on Roblox to showcase how we do careers differently, bringing our unique careers philosophy to life. At IKEA, there is no set route to career progression. Our co-workers are able to change roles, switch departments, and grow in any direction they choose, both in the game or in the real world. There are many ways to learn and grow at IKEA, and that's what IKEA on Roblox is all about.”
Players have been able to take jobs in Roblox thanks to a variety of role-playing modes, but this marks an unprecedented move for both the game and IKEA. Virtual interviews for these virtual jobs will be held between June 14 and June 18, with the new IKEA experience officially launching on June 24. Each successful Roblox applicant will be paid an hourly IKEA Co-Worker rate and must be at least 18 to apply. Applicants must also be located in the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland to be considered for the job due to the wages matching the London Living Wage set in the UK.
