In Hytale, Lightwood refers to a classification of wooden materials that players can find while exploring the world. They aren't as magical as they sound — Lightwood literally refers to wood that's brightly colored. Getting large amounts of them is fairly easy, but with a world as big as Orbis, Hytale players will need to know where to go and what type of tree to chop down if they want to get any Lightwood at all. Thankfully, this type of wood is a lot easier to get compared to other materials found in-game.
How to Get Charcoal in Hytale
Charcoal is a universal fuel source in Hytale and a crafting material required for certain recipes in the game. Here is how to get it.
Where to Find Lightwood in Hytale
The first type of Lightwood many players can find is Birch, which is fairly abundant in autumnal biomes close to the regular green meadow zones. You can easily find these biomes by looking for red forests on your map. The good thing about autumn biomes is that they're pretty much the same as regular forest biomes in terms of danger level, so you won't necessarily need to get good gear before exploring those areas.
Birch is also plentiful in green forest/meadows.
Birch trees can be identified by their white bark and light-green leaves. They are not to be mistaken for Aspen trees, which also have light-colored bark. Birch trees have green leaves, while Aspen trees have yellow/orange leaves. If you take Aspen trunks to a Builder's Workbench, you'll find that they count as Softwood, not Lightwood.
Autumn biomes are plentiful, and much like swamps, they're often found adjacent to forest biomes. As far as enemies are concerned, you only need to worry about bears, spiders, and skeletons, but if you're out and about at night, expect to find plenty of Void monsters too.
Logs from the big Gumboab trees in desert biomes also count as Lightwood. If you ever find yourself in the badlands, you might want to chop some of those trees down for posterity's sake.
What's Lightwood For?
Players will need Lightwood in order to upgrade their Farmer's Workbenches, though they'll also need an assortment of vegetables and Essences of Life to do so. More types of wood are needed for further Farmer's Workbench upgrades, so start collecting logs as soon as you can if you want to plant more stuff around your base.
As far as building is concerned, Lightwood is also used to make the same types of Crude building pieces that the Hardwood log type does. However, Lightwood blocks are white in color, and Lightwood roof tiles are grayish blue.
