If players want to increase their storage space in Hytale, they will need bigger chests. More capacity to keep their stuff safe also means more opportunities to hoard lots of important materials like Thorium, Cobalt, and Gold. But can players craft bigger chests?

This guide will teach players adventuring in Hytale how to create bigger chests so that they can properly store their items, saving lots of space and speeding up crafting at the same time.

How To Create Large Chests In Hytale

When players attempt to create one of the many chests in Hytale, they will notice something critical: No matter which materials they are built from, their storage capacity is always the same. This might be a problem for those who enjoy hoarding loot and crafting tons of things, and in Hytale, there are dozens of recipes to craft, which requite tons of materials.

Every chest has the same size: one square (cube), and the same capacity which is 18 units. Stacking Chests one above the other doesn't do the trick, since the Workbenches will not detect resources of chests placed above ground level.

Double Chests in Hytale the correct way to place them to benefit from automatic stored resources for crafting

So, the trick to increase Chest Capacity and still benefit from the automatic stored resource use, is to place two of the same chests one next to the other. Carefully measuring the distance between the two so that they merge into a single bigger chest. The image above depicts the correct way to place them, with two double chests made from different materials (Hardwood and Softwood).

Putting two chests one next to the other will double their Storage capacity (18 → 36) which will permit players to store more resources and use them automatically from their workbenches.

Carry more of the materials you find on Arcadia-7 by increasing your inventory size with upgrades in StarRupture.

A crude chest becomes a Crude Double Chest, an Iron Chest becomes a Large Iron Chest, and so on. It is not possible to stack more than two chests, and if players try to merge four chest into a double tile they will end up having two double chests stacked one above the other (as shown in the image below).

Double Chests Stacked one above the other in Hytale, this is the wrong way to place them and will cause workbenches to not detect materials in the chest above

Again, this will cause materials placed on the chest above to not be detected by the crafting stations automatically.

Players need to be careful not to mix tiles when building the floor of their bases, as chests placed on a different tile (material) from the nearby workbenches will cause the crafting stations to not detect resources stored inside those chests. There are a few mods that can help with this problem, so try to browse for them on CurseForge.

Finally, another thing to be considered: The quality of the crafting materials doesn't alter the Storage Capacity of Chests in Hytale. What it does alter is durability. So, if players suffer an attack on their base (with raids currently not implemented, that won't be an issue), chests made from better materials like Hardwood, Redwood, or even Azurewood will last longer during a Raid (theoretically).

Players must remember that Hytale is still on Early Access, so many things might change with later patches. We will update this guide accordingly if this situation changes, and if chest capacity is altered depending on the materials used.
