How to Catch Fish in Hytale

The main way to catch fish in Hytale is by using fishing traps, a type of craftable object that can be placed on the surface of any body of water in the game. Once placed, a fishing trap will activate after a period of time, catching fish, sea treasures, shells, and other objects that can be found in water. This is also the only way to obtain Salt Blocks in Hytale.

Each fishing trap only has the capacity to trap one thing inside of it at a time. You’ll need to manually empty it to reset it.

Fishing Traps can be loaded with Fish Bait, which increases the chance that a fish will be trapped inside (instead of other random objects) and reduces the time it takes for the trap to activate. By default, a fishing trap can take anywhere between 20 and 40 minutes to activate, but with a Fish Bait equipped, it takes roughly 5 to 10 minutes.

Fishing traps are not consumed upon use and are considered reusable items.

Both Fishing Traps and Fish Bait can be crafted at a Tier 2 Farmer’s Workbench in Hytale.

There is no fishing rod minigame in the current version of Hytale, though it is likely one will arrive in a future update.

Players can also find and kill fish in the water with a weapon in Hytale. However, doing so only yields Raw Fish, not the fish itself. There is no way to manually capture fish yourself.

How to Use Fish in Hytale

All Fish can be processed into Raw Fish at a Chef’s Stove in Hytale. The number of Raw Fish that are obtained as a result depends on the fish’s rarity, with higher rarity fish yielding more Raw Fish. Here are the details.
