Clay is a key crafting component required to make colored walls and structures in Hytale. For players who have a certain theme in mind for how they want to build their base, getting their hands on colored Clays is the very first step.
Fortunately, Clay is a relatively common material that can be mined directly in the world of Hytale. However, processing raw Clay into colored Clay requires different petals that only drop from certain plants and flowers. This guide covers exactly where you can find Clay, how to turn it into colored Clay, and how to get the Petals required to do so. Here are the details.
All Types of Wood in Hytale & Where to Find Them
From Goldenwood to Lightwood, here are the locations of all types of wood in Hytale.
How to Make Clay in Hytale
In Hytale, Clay can be crafted at the Furniture Workbench, under the Pottery tab. One piece of Clay can be made using 4 Red Sandstone.

Clay can only be crafted using Red Sandstone; regular Sandstone does not work. Red Sandstone can be found in the Howling Sands (Zone 2) region, both above and below ground. On the surface, look for land with a reddish tone.
Here, you’ll find large reserves of Sandstone, Red Sandstone, Red Clay, and sometimes pure Clay as well. Both Red Clay and Clay can be directly mined from these regions, but they are less common compared to Red Sandstone. The difference between the textures of Sandstone, Red Sandstone, Red Clay, and Clay is shown in the screenshot above.
Red Clay cannot be turned into Red Clay - Smooth; you need pure Clay for that.
How to Get Colored Clay in Hytale
Clay can be turned into different types of colored Clay at the Furniture Workbench in Hytale. These colored Clays are the main materials used for a lot of the recipes in the game. To make colored Clay, you’ll need to find petals of the corresponding colors.
These petals can be obtained by punching or cutting down certain flowers and plants or by crafting them at the Furniture Workbench under the Textiles tab.
Do not pick up flowers or plants that drop colored petals directly using the Interaction Key (F). Use fists, tools, or a weapon to get petals.

Azure, Blood, and Storm Petals in Hytale are special petals that are not used in Clay crafting. Their main purpose is to upgrade the Farmer’s Workbench to Tier 9 and 10.
All Ore Locations in Hytale
Here is where to find every ore in Hytale, what they look like, and the best locations to farm them in bulk.
How to Farm Petals in Hytale
Getting petals by cutting down flowers and plants works, but only up to a certain point. This method is not scaleable, and if players want a large amount of a certain Clay type for a major project, it is more efficient to set up a Petal farming project instead of manually picking flowers. The following table details the crafting method of all Petals in Hytale.

Yellow Petals are the only petals you can directly grow from the ground because Sunflowers are a farmable crop in Hytale. Yellow Petals can then be turned into White Petals using Cotton, which is also a farming crop, though one that becomes available at Farmer’s Workbench Tier 7.
White Petals serve as the base for the remaining colored petals. If you want a large quantity of a certain Petal type, simply picking up the related flower from the overworld is very inefficient. If you set up a Yellow → White → Colored Petal farming setup, you can produce any given Petal in bulk. For example, if you wanted a large quantity of Pink Petals, you would set up a farm with Sunflowers to get Yellow Petals, Cotton to get White Petals, and Turnips to convert White Petals into Pink Petals.
Blue and Cyan Petals are the outliers in this regard because you cannot produce Blue Common Mushrooms or Blue Flatcap Mushrooms yourself; you can only find them in the wild. Fortunately, both of these mushrooms are fairly common in the game. Blue Common Mushrooms can be found in Azure Forests in the Emerald Grove, whereas Blue Flatcap Mushrooms can be found on the mountains in Whisperfrost Frontiers
