Halkenburg is one of the princes of the Kakin empire, and definitely a character that fans should keep an eye on. He has showcased his ability before in HxH, however, fans finally know what this ability’s name is following chapter 403 of series. This ability is extremely overpowered and will have major consequences in the upcoming chapters.

Who is Prince Halkenburg in Hunter X Hunter?

Halkenburg is a part of the 14 princes of Kakin, and is definitely one of the most interesting ones. He's is a very ambitious man, seeing as he wants to change the political system of Kakin from a monarchy to more of a democracy.

At the beginning of the Succession Contest arc in HxH, he was more of a pacifist. However, this changed slowly as he becomes more comfortable with killing as the story goes on.

War changes the enemy's institutions through force. Combat annihilates the enemy's will itself through force. To wield such a force is to be willing to face death! — Halkenburg

Until recently in the story, Halkenburg was believed to be the son of king Nasubi with his second wife, second queen Duazul. That would’ve made Camilla, Tubeppa, and Luzurus his full-blood siblings. However, as seen recently in HxH 403, Halkenburg had a secret when it came to his maternal line. Indeed, it’s revealed that Halkenburg is not the son of second Queen Duazul, but of the first Queen Unma. This makes him the full-blooded siblings of first Prince Benjamin and 4th Prince Tserriednich instead.

In a letter to Benjamin, from what Kaiser and Fugetsu claimed was Kacho, it was revealed to him that Halkenburg is the son of Unma, and that she had the second Queen take him to avoid possible assassination attempts from his two other brothers. Benjamin, however, doesn’t seem to really believe all of this, thinking it is just a rumor.

However, it’s definitely believed that Halkenburg is aware of who his real mother is and seems to have a good relationship with her, unlike with his adoptive mother Duazul.

Halkenburg is a character that should not be underestimated. His Nen ability, which has two names, The Boy Who Shoots The Arrow: Grimmel The Dissonance, is a power of a currently unknown Nen type and is one of the strongest abilities seen in the Succession War contest arc, if not in all of HxH.

His Nen ability allows him to, as the name implies, shoot an arrow. By making his Nen into an arrow and bow, he can fire this arrow that can pierce through pretty much any defense, even through walls and Nen abilities. When the arrow hits the target, Halkenburg can then transfer his consciousness, or the consciousness of one of his supporters into the target he just hit. The body of the person whose consciousness is transferred goes into a sleep like coma, one in which they won’t wake up from until the target’s body is killed. This ability also creates an armor around him, protecting him.

To even use this ability, however, Halkenburg must gather supporters. To do that, Halkenburg relies on his guardian beast, who possess an Enhancement symbiotic type ability that marks people on the back of their hand with a pinion. If the people marked are loyal to Halkenburg, then this pinion will stay. Otherwise, it will vanish after 10 minutes. With that, Halkenburg can harness their aura when he uses The Boy Who Shoots The Arrow: Grimmel The Dissonance.

While the Nen type of this ability is unknown, it’s likely that it incorporates multiple Nen types as it is quite a complex technique. It might include Nen types such as emission, transmutation, and manipulation.

The official English translation of this ability uses the term “Grimmel The Dissonance”, however the Katakana name of the ability is Grimal Les Dissonances. This is a reference to a French orchestra that operates without a conductor—reflecting Halkenburg’s ability well, as he needs to have supporters around to be able to use this Nen ability and how he wants to democratize Kakin.

Some things about this ability remain unknown, however. Togashi will hopefully shed some light on it eventually. One of these questions pertains to the fate of the consciousness of the target and whether it remains in the original body but simply lacks control or something else entirely. Another question that might be relevant soon is whether Halkenburg can use this Nen ability while his consciousness is in another body. Halkenburg is currently in Might’s body, so whether he can use this Nen ability or not will have to be seen.

Future Use of Grimmel the Dissonance in HxH

Halkenburg Has Possessed The Body Of Might

Recently in HxH, Halkenburg has used his ability against one of Prince Benjamin’s bodyguards, Balsamilco Might. Halkenburg recruited some individuals, and with their support, he was able to shoot his arrow onto Balsamilco Might. Might had come with the plan to assassinate him during his trial with TSK-17, a silent killer.

Now, Halkenburg has sent his own consciousness into the body of Balsamilco Might, and what he will do in the future remains to be seen. His body is in a sleep-like state surrounded by his supporters.

What he does next will depend on whether Halkenburg can use Grimmel the Dissonance in the body of Might or not. If he can, he might be planning to change bodies again, possibly with the first Prince of the Kakin empire, Benjamin, his older brother. In Benjamin’s body, Halkenburg would have access to a lot more power, and that would definitely be a game changer in this Succession War.

Alternatively, Halkenburg could decide to stay in Might’s body until he eliminates his older brother Benjamin. Indeed, Halkenburg could infiltrate Benjamin’s ranks while pretending to be Might. Then, he could use the very same weapon Benjamin had planned to have him killed with.

With that, Halkenburg could eliminate Benjamin, and perhaps some of his men too. This mission could cause the body of Might to die as well, allowing him to return to his original body, with no possible proof of Benjamin’s death being linked back to him.
