Hunter x Hunter made its return to the Weekly Shonen Jump after a lengthy hiatus. This was only possible because of Togashi's improved health. For a long time, the Hunter x Hunter author has been deeply troubled by his health issues, which have prevented him from working freely.

In a recent statement, Togashi revealed that his health has improved. He said that his back has now recovered to the point that it is possible for him to sit in a chair and write new chapters of Hunter x Hunter. The author also said that he is making progress little by little.

What This Means For Hunter x Hunter Manga

This is extremely positive news for both fans and Togashi. If Togashi's health continues to improve, then it is possible that Hunter x Hunter will be a part of the Weekly Shonen Jump for more than just a few months before going on an extended hiatus.

In a separate report, it was already confirmed that the manga will be serialized non-weekly without a fixed date. This was likely to prevent Togashi's health from worsening.

Hunter x Hunter is one of the most critically acclaimed manga series of all time. It started serializing in the Weekly Shonen Jump in 1998. So far, all the chapters have been compiled into 38 volumes. When it comes to sales, Hunter x Hunter has sold over 80 million copies, making it one of the highest-selling manga series of all time. If the author's health wasn't suffering, the manga would have easily crossed the 100 million mark.

Hunter x Hunter has two different anime adaptations. The first started in October 1999 and ended in March 2001. It was produced by Nippon Animation and had a total of 62 episodes. The second adaptation came out in October 2011 and continued till September 2014.

The 2011 version consisted of 148 episodes, making it twice the size of the initial adaptation. It was animated by Madhouse, which has worked on countless anime titles, all of which have gone on to receive highly positive responses. Some of the anime that Madhouse has produced are as follows:

  • Frieren: Beyond Journey's End
  • One Punch Man
  • Overlord
  • Parasyte
  • Claymore
  • Trigun

At the moment, there is no implication for the Hunter x Hunter anime to return. It is likely that they want the manga to build a healthy lead before starting another adaptation.

Hunter x Hunter has also received several video game adaptations. Hunter × Hunter: Nen × Impact is the most recent. Created by Bushiroad Games and Eighting, the game was supposed to release in 2024, but it was pushed back to 2025.

Hunter x Hunter is available to watch on Crunchyroll.
