Crytek has announced a collaboration with Fun World to bring the iconic Scream villain Ghost Face into its first-person shooter Hunt: Showdown 1896. The Ghost Face Rampage DLC is designed to celebrate Halloween 2024, and the new Hunter has been given a 19th-century makeover to fit into the game’s aesthetic. This is Hunt: Showdown 1896’s first horror collaboration to coincide with the Harvest of Ghosts in-game event, which will remain live until November 25.

First launched in 2018, the extraction shooter saw players assume the roles of bounty hunters in an attempt to claim the bounties of mythical monsters. 1896 was an updated version of the game released in 2024 for current-gen consoles, despite fans not receiving the end of older console support well. Crytek released a trailer announcing the arrival of Ghost Face, and the new Hunter will be using a silent-based arsenal. Ghost Face’s two main weapons include the Hush, which is a Frontier 73C Silencer, and a Bornheim No. 3 Silencer known as Whisper. The Hunter will also carry the Life Taker tool, which is a knife to match the villain’s preferred method of killing from the movie franchise, and these weapons will give players "an edge in fast-paced close-quarters combat." Ghost Face may end up joining Hunt: Showdown 1896’s best Legendary Hunters, and the DLC will launch on October 24, 2024, on Steam, Xbox Series, and PlayStation 5 for $9.99/€9.99.

Hunt: Showdown 1896 isn’t the only game flaunting the slasher spirit. Behaviour Interactive’s asymmetrical survival horror Dead By Daylight uses lethal Ghost Face builds to terrorize survivors, proving the iconic 90s villain still has what it takes to be a terrifying foe. However, the game’s artists had to redesign the killer for an 1890s setting, and Lead Art Director Stefan Heinrich explained the changes brought to Ghost Face’s new look in Crytek's post, saying, "The iconic mask is now a hand-carved wooded mask, weathered and cracked, a tattered battle worn duster replaces the robe and to complete the look, leather holsters and gear have been added."

Fans seem to be divided over the Ghost Face addition, with some wanting the game to stick to the unique lore of the 19th century, and others praising the Hunter’s design. Ironically, the shooter has been in the crosshairs recently, with fans flooding the game with negative reviews after support for older consoles ended, and a recent update overhauled the UI.
