A game recently added to PS Plus Extra, Humankind, currently has a platinum trophy that is unattainable. Amplitude Studios’ turn-based strategy game originally released in 2021 and received generally positive reviews, with players comparing it to the Civilization series. Humankind lets players explore 60 cultures spanning six eras of human civilization, or players can diverge from history and create their own unique civilization.
Humankind was added to Xbox Game Pass in 2023 and has since been removed; it was even given away on Epic Games Store in February 2025. In May, it was added to the PS Plus Extra catalog, meaning that at this point, gamers on most major platforms have had the opportunity to play the “Best Sim/Strategy” Game Awards nominee for free.
2009 PSP Game Now Has Trophy Support on PS Plus Premium
A classic PlayStation Portable game from 2009 has been updated, and PS Plus Premium members can start unlocking trophies in the game right now.
It's worth warning newcomers, who might be playing Humankind for the first time now that it's on PS Plus, that there are several trophies that can't be earned. Unfortunately for trophy hunters, according to TrueTropies, Humankind has had six trophies that cannot be unlocked since launch, including of course the Platinum. Some of these are incredibly difficult or time-consuming to accomplish, and it can be very discouraging to realize, after all that work, that the trophies are bugged. And given that the game was released nearly four years ago, it seems unlikely that developer Amplitude has any intention of ever fixing the issue.
Humankind Has Trophies That Won’t Unlock
- Nec pluribus impar - Platinum
- Wonder-Full – Gold - Build every Cultural Wonder over several games
- Polymath – Bronze - Research every technology
- Landstalker – Bronze - Finish a game possessing at least half the territories
- Nerdopolis – Bronze - Produce at least 1000 Science per turn in a city
- One True Faith – Bronze - Lead a religion which 8 or more Empires follow
From browsing online forums, it seems that the issue is not consistent between players. One person even noted that, while playing on Xbox, they’d unlocked achievements they hadn’t earned. Others have reported hitting no snags while earning achievements, though it’s unclear if they’d attempted the six known problematic ones. Some players have theorized that trophies/achievements might not be unlocking because the Humankind client is flagging mod use. And while that seems to have been an explanation for a few people, it’s not globally applicable, given that the issue also exists on the PlayStation and Xbox console versions of the title.
While many people don’t care about unlocking achievements/trophies in games, some players find it to be an important aspect of their gameplay experience. It makes them feel that they got their money’s worth, like they explored everything the developers had to offer. There are even people who play games just to unlock trophies, making trophy hunting a game unto itself, while others enjoy the challenge and feeling of accomplish associated with obtaining a platinum trophy.
