Fated Ciphers are a type of resource added in Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate, and players will want a lot of them if they want to make the grind for gear easier. These are instrumental to making RNG less punishing, but since Fated Ciphers are found in such low quantities, they need to be used wisely.

If you want an easier time getting Kepler gear in Destiny 2, then you'll want to keep your eyes peeled for Fated Ciphers. Here's where you can get them.

While playing The Edge of Fate campaign in Destiny 2, players will find lots of closed Aionian Chests. Here's how to unlock them.

How to Farm for Fated Ciphers in Destiny 2

Destiny 2 Kepler Focused Decoding

You can get small amounts of Fated Ciphers by completing activities around Kepler, such as the Vex energy pillar event near the Caldera Landing Zone. Events like those give 2 Fated Ciphers on Legendary difficulty, while matchmade activities like The Sieve and Time Latch Missions reward even more.

Time Latch Missions

Time Latch Missions are going to be your most reliable way of getting Fated Ciphers. These only take a few minutes to complete, but this may depend on what mission you end up getting. Completing a Time Latch Mission will reward you with Fated Ciphers as well as loot from the Kepler pool.

Rewards chests from Edge of Fate missions that have started via quest terminals on Kepler will only reward you with Fated Ciphers. They will not drop random gear.

The Sieve

Destiny 2 The Sieve Rewards

The Sieve, on the other hand, is a post-campaign activity that only becomes available periodically. After you finish the Edge of Fate story, open your map and look for an activity icon to the left of the Caldera LZ. This will let you know how much time is left before The Sieve is active again.

The Sieve is a great way to farm for Edge of Fate gear and Fated Ciphers. You can keep starting new encounters in the Sieve until the activity goes offline, which means you can farm for as long as you'd like. Think of the Sieve as an endurance mission for players who really want to get more loot. Just make sure to bring a build that can handle the pressure.

Destiny 2 Edge of Fate The Sieve map

In this activity, players will help Drifter run a dark matter mining operation. All you need to do here is fend off waves of enemies while Drifter does the mining, then beat the boss after the mining is finished to receive loot. After that, you and your fireteam can start the activity again, or leave once you've had your fill of carnage.

Sieve runs should reward you with three Fated Ciphers per activity loop, though more may be given if you challenge it on higher difficulties.
