Immobilize is the first spell players will get when facing the first boss in Black Myth: Wukong after the intro boss. Immobilize is able to stun even the largest bosses and has an entire skill tree that can be upgraded to make the spell even more effective.
One of the first upgrades players can get for Immobilize is
Evanescence, which can be a risky upgrade to utilize depending on the enemy you are facing. Evanescence requires perfect timing to land; here's exactly how it works.
Black Myth: Wukong— Best Early Game Skills
Unlocking the right skills can make progressing through the initial stages of Black Myth: Wukong much simpler.
How To Evanescence Work In Black Myth: Wukong
-
The second upgrade along the left path of
Immobilize.
- Requires 1 Spark to unlock.
- Only one level.
Evanescence goes into effect when players perfectly time Immobilize the second the enemy is about to hit the player, with an even more strict timer than getting a perfect dodge. While the description in-game states it goes into effect when they attack, it can only happen the second before the impact hits the player. This adds great risk as you need to time the casting of the spell to the moment before the attack hits.
It is easier to land against larger bosses with slow swings, as you can first dodge out of the way before trying to land the perfect Immobilize to trigger Evanescence without the risk of getting hit if you get the timing right. Usually, when Immobilize hits an enemy, they will glow gold, but Evanescence instead gives them a silver glow if it lands correctly.
Players will know they landed
Evanescence as the Immobilize spell will be cast with a backflip animation that also slightly slows down time to show you landed the ability correctly. Landing Evanescence will be the same as Immobilize, but will also lead to the player dealing more damage and the effects lasting longer. Getting the timing of Evanescence down will take some practice, and it's best to be too early and still Immobilize them rather than being too late and getting hit before the spell goes off. It's also useful to know how to recover Mana to make sure you can keep trying to land Evanescence in longer battles.

Wearing full or partial armor sets offers unique bonuses in Black Myth: Wukong; here are the best armor sets to use in Chapters 1 & 2.
Is Evanescence A Worthwhile Upgrade
Evanescence will take some time to get used to, but its best selling point is that is only an add-on. Messing up the perfect timing can usually still lead to you Immobilizing your opponent, which is a very powerful spell, even more than Rock Solid. Evanescence is also much easier to land against larger bosses with more exaggerated wind-ups that can be easy to read, with large weapons that help you get the perfect timing of when to cast the spell.
