How to Use Character Skills and Ultimate Abilities

Each class or character in Elden Ring Nightreign has two special abilities that fit the overall playstyle they're best suited for. The first one is called a character ability that recharges passively, while the other one is an ultimate ability that recharges based on how many weapon hits you inflict on enemies. Both abilities are extremely useful in surviving the harsh lands of Limveld, and here's how you can use them both.

How to Use Weapon Skills

How to Use Weapon Skills and Ultimate Abilities

Weapon skills work a bit differently in Elden Ring Nightreign. You'll need to switch to either single or two-handed armament, depending on which equipment skill you want to use. Players can switch between single and two-handed armaments by holding CTRL+Mouse Wheel Up on PC, or holding Y or Triangle and pressing LB/RB, or L1/R1 on controllers.

For players who don't want to switch between single to two-handed armaments during combat, they must meet one of the following conditions.

  • The off-hand equipment slot must be empty.
  • The off-hand equipment slot must have a weapon or shield that doesn't have an active skill/ability.

Having equipment in the off-hand slot (left) that comes with an ability/skill will override the weapon's skill in the main hand slot (right).

By following either one of the conditions above, players can either use the "Q" key on PC, or the LT/L2 button on controllers to execute a weapon's skill/ability in Elden Ring Nightreign.

Some weapons have a required level that players must reach before activating their skills/abilities. It's displayed in the top right section of the weapon info in the inventory.
