One of the most enjoyable features in Fields of Mistria is the ability to customize your farm in Mistgrove in just about every way possible. The way you choose to raise animals, grow crops, and build structures is entirely up to you. There are also plenty of upgrades to help you maximize your farm's output while sprucing up its appearance at the same time.
One of the most sought-after upgrades in Fields of Mistria is the Home Upgrade, and the game's "Third Big Update" (v0.14.0) has added yet another tier to home expansion. It's a bit pricy, so here's how to unlock this upgrade.
Fields of Mistria: Animal Festival Guide
Here's how and when you can start the Animal Festival in Fields of Mistria and what you can do on the day of the event.
How to Unlock Home Upgrade 4 in Fields of Mistria
As with other upgrades for your farmhouse in Fields of Mistria, you can obtain Home Upgrade 4 from Ryis' Carpenter's Shop. However, there are a few objectives you need to satisfy first. Along with first building Home Upgrade 3, they include the following:
Reach Town Rank 65 (Silver Rank)
There are a variety of methods to raise your Town Rank daily by accruing Renown points. The more of them you fulfill each day, the more Renown you'll earn and the faster your rank will increase. The best ways to do this are:
- Crown Requests: Offered by Adeline, these quests often reward 75 Renown for completion along with other valuable items.
- Story Quests: These are otherwise known as Town Repair quests. They give an average of 20 Renown for completion.
- Local Requests are posted on the town board by local residents. Each one rewards 20 Renown, so complete as many as you can.
- Museum Donations: Anytime you discover a new item that has the museum icon next to it unchecked, you can donate it to the Museum for Renown and completion of artifact sets (which lead to even more rewards).
- Shipping Crops: This technically applies to both grown crops and items obtained from your livestock (e.g. Milk, Eggs, Wool, Feathers). The more you ship each day, the more Renown you'll receive in turn for aiding the town. Check out this guide for the best crops for each season.
Complete the "Upgrade the Saturday Market Town" Repair Quest
This quest will unlock once you reach Town Level 65 and have completed the "Stone Refinery" Town Repair quest. Speak to Adeline at Nora's General Store. She'll announce that two new merchants are set to join Mistria's Saturday Market, but only once the material requirements to build their booths near the Manor are met. Adeline will set up a donation box outside the Manor, and you'll need to acquire the following materials:
- 20 Crystal
- 8 Gold Ingot
- 100 Hard Wood
- 20 Obsidian
- 50 Refined Stone
If you don't already have these materials on hand, you'll need to visit the Mines a few times to gather most of them. Crystals can be collected from the Deep Earth section (Floors 41-59) of the Mines, while Obsidian and Gold ores for Gold Ingots are gathered from the Lava Caves section (Floors 61-79). You can also purchase Gold ores from the Blacksmith in town, but they are pricey, so you're better off going to gather them yourself.
However, there's an even better method to cut down the time required for these materials. Since you should have the Stone Refinery repaired and ready for use in the Mines entrance area (seen above), you can also use it to craft Obsidian and Crystals with regular Stone. This is an incredibly convenient shortcut, especially if you have a lot of Stone on hand from digging in the Mines.
You can also craft Refined Stone with regular Stone you've gathered via the Stone Refinery. Meanwhile, you can easily gather a bunch of Hard Wood from the Deep Woods area on the east side of town. You need to have unlocked the Dragon Breath spell to get access to the area.
Complete the "Upgrade the Carpenter's Shop Town" Repair Quest
This quest will unlock once you've reached Town Rank 65 and completed the Saturday Market upgrade quest. You'll need to upgrade Ryis' Carpenter's Shop by submitting the following materials to the donation box in front of the shop:
- 30 Crystal
- 100 Glass
- 100 Refined Stone
- 30 Obsidian
Most of these materials will look familiar from the previous upgrade quest, and you'll need to acquire them in the same fashion if you don't have them already. You might even want to consider gathering these during the Saturday Market upgrade quest to give yourself a head start.
Glass can be obtained in the Mines by defeating Enchantern enemies, or breaking open boxes or Crystals. You can occasionally find them for sale at Balor's Wagon as well, and Ryis even sells them inside the Carpenter's Shop. If you have a good chunk of change to spend, it might be easier just to do it that way.
Along with unlocking the Home Upgrade, Ryis will also throw in a free Small Greenhouse Blueprint for your efforts in completing this quest. A Greenhouse will allow you to grow any crops regardless of the season.
Once you've gathered everything, turn it in by talking to Adeline. A cutscene will then play out with the shop undergoing its dramatic transformation outside and inside. Ryis' father Landen will note that you should drop by to see all the new projects they have available, including your highly-anticipated home upgrade.
How to Build Home Upgrade 4 in Fields of Mistria
Once the Home Upgrade 4 expansion is available, in usual fashion, you then need to collect all the required materials to build the upgrade itself. They include the following:
- 200 Hard Wood
- 100 Refined Stone
- 30 Gold Ingot
- 50,000t
All of these materials can be acquired via the methods mentioned above, and again, you might want to build up your stores of these while completing the previous objectives. That way, you can be well on your way to building your dream farmhouse much sooner.
All Home Upgrade 4 Changes
If you're looking for more space in your farmhouse, then Home Upgrade 4 is a great opportunity to expand even further. The upgrade adds a second floor to the house, with three total extra rooms on said second floor, which you can customize just like any other part of your house. It can be accessed from a set of stairs, a ladder, or a teleportation pad. It doesn't change the overall width of the exterior of the house, but expands the interior square footage even further.
While personal preferences are different for every player, the second floor presents an opportunity to move your bedroom elements upstairs while keeping your more functional setups downstairs, such as your kitchen and other crafting stations. If you're ready to have the biggest farmhouse on the block in Mistria, now's your chance.
