In one of the Indigo Disk's teaser trailers, it was revealed that the starter Pokemon from Gen 1 to Gen 8 were going to make a return to Gen 9. This turned out to be exactly the case when Pokemon Scarlet & Violet's part 2 of the expansion pass was released worldwide. However, the starter Pokemon won't appear until you've completed a certain task beforehand.
Treecko is the Grass-type starter of the Hoenn region, and it's one you will need to catch to fill out the Indigo Disk's Blueberry Pokedex. If you start searching Terarium for Treecko on your first visit, you won't find it. You'll need to expand one of the biomes in Terarium to make it appear, or you can obtain Treecko via two other methods.

The Grass/Poison-type Bulbasaur is one of the starter Pokemon from Gen 1, and now you can catch one in Pokemon Scarlet/Violet's Indigo Disk.
Where to Find Treecko in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
Canyon Biome in Terarium (3000BP)
Treecko can be found on a mountain in the middle of the Canyon Biome. Specifically, this is the same area where you will find Cranidos (Scarlet), Shieldon (Violet), and Skarmory. You can get to this by heading east from the Canyon Plaza or the Canyon Rest Area. Use Koraidon/Miraidon to climb up the mountainside.
Before Treecko can appear, you will need to expand the Canyon Biome. This can be done by contributing 3000BP to the Terarium Club at the League Club in Blueberry Academy. You will unlock this feature after you've met up with Carmine at the Central Plaza. In order for this to occur, you will need to complete the quest "The Way Home" and the Kitakami/Teal Mask story. Otherwise, you won't be contacted by Carmine, and therefore locking you from the League Club.
BP are short for Blueberry Points, which are an Indigo Disk-exclusive currency that can be earned and spent in Terarium and the League Club respectively. Blueberry Points are earned by completing Blueberry Quests (BBQs), which you unlock after completing your first class in Terarium (Coastal Classroom). You will receive three BBQs at a time, and as you complete more of them, you'll unlock BBQs that are more challenging, but give out more BPs. Since you will need 3000BP just to expand the Canyon Biome, you'll want to save them as much as possible.
How to Get Treecko without Inidgo Disk DLC
Trade or Transfer
If farming 3000BP is too tedious or if you don't have the Scarlet/Violet expansion pass, you can get Treecko by trading for it, or transferring one from another Pokemon game. To trade, you need a Nintendo Online Membership. To transfer, you need to link your Nintendo Accont to Pokemon HOME on the Switch and the Pokemon HOME mobile app (if you're transferring from Pokemon GO).
Trading for Treecko
To trade in Pokemon Scarlet/Violet, do the following:
- Open the Poke Portal in the pause menu (X-button), or go to one of the Union Circles at any Poke Center.
- Tap L-button to connect to the internet.
- Choose Union Circle (if accessing through Poke Portal), and then select Form a Group or Join a Group. If you're forming a Group, a 6-digit code will be generated for you to give to whoever you're trying to connect with online.
- Once you have two or more people, you can Set Out/Embark.
- In the Union Circle/group, go back into Poke Portal, then choose Link Trade.
Transferring Treecko
Treecko can be obtained in: Pokemon Sword/Shield (Crown Tundra), Pokemon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl, and Pokemon GO.
- If you're going to transfer Treecko from SwSh, you can get a Grovyle in Dynamax Adventures, and choose to keep it once you reach the end of the map. If you want to transfer Treecko and not Grovyle/Sceptile, you'll want to breed Grovyle and hatch the Treecko Egg before you can transfer it.
- In BDSP, you will need to get the National Dex before you can find Treecko in grassy hideaways in the Grand Underground.
- In Pokemon GO, you can occasionally find Treecko (or its evolutions) in the wild, or by completing Hoenn-based Special Research Tasks.
Before transferring, you'll want to make sure that you've linked a Nintendo Account to Pokemon HOME (switch and mobile) and Pokemon GO. Once this has been done, you can transfer Pokemon by:
- Opening whichever game you're going to be transferring from (source game), and putting Treecko/Grovyle/Sceptile in a PC Box. Save your game, then exit.
- Open Pokemon HOME on the Switch, and access the source game's storage. Move Treecko from the source game's PC Box to HOME's Basic Box, then save changes and exit.
- While still in HOME, open Pokemon Scarlet/Violet (target game). Transfer Treecko to one of the PC Boxes in the target game, then save changes and exit.
If you're transferring from Pokemon GO, you can send Treecko by using the Transfer Machine. Simply go into Settings in Pokemon GO, choose Connected Devices and Services, select Pokemon HOME, then Transfer Pokemon. When you go into Pokemon HOME on the switch, there will be a red notification in the menu screen indicating that you have Pokemon that were sent from Pokemon GO.
How to Get Lunala in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet (Indigo Disk DLC)
Here's where to find Lunala in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's second expansion, The Indigo Disk.
How to Evolve Treecko & Grovyle into Sceptile
What Level Does Treecko Evolve?
Treecko evolves at level 16 into Grovyle. Once Grovyle reaches level 36, it can evolve into Sceptile. If you catch a Treecko in Pokemon Scarlet/Violet, Treecko's level will be in the mid-50s/60s. In that case, just give it one Rare Candy to get it to evolve into Grovyle, then feed it another Rare Candy to get Sceptile.
