Spice is the key to success in Dune: Awakening, and one of the key endgame materials players will need to farm to craft many of the top-tier gear and weapons in the game. But farming it can be extremely complicated, since Spice often appears in places where the Sandworm is a constant threat.

This guide will teach players how to farm Spice in Dune: Awakening, with tips on how to increase their yield, and how to avoid the Sandworm, and most importantly: How to identify Spice Fields.

How to Farm Spice in Dune Awakening

To farm Spice Sand, players need to spot a Spice Field, also known as Spice Bloom, due to the flower-shaped zone which appears in the middle of the desert after a meteor impacts the ground. There are two ways to farm spice in Dune: Awakening: manually (not recommended) and using a compactor tool (the optimal way).

Players should pick the second, since it's faster and safer than gathering Spice manually. Depending on the quality of the compactor, players will attract more or less attention from the sandworm. It is recommended that players grab the Compact Compactor Mk4 schematic from the Imperial Research Station Nº 71 (located in the O'odham). Here's a detailed step-by-step on how to get Spice Sand:

  1. Spot a Spice Field using the Binoculars or scouting with the Ornithopter.
  2. Pay attention to the sandworm's route and pick the time when it's further away or breaking at more than 1000 meters.
  3. Descend or drive towards the Spice Bloom, then use the compactor tool to shoot at the purple sand.
  4. Gather the mounds generated by the Compactor.
  5. Flee before the Sandworm arrives.

Spice Sand still needs to be refined using a Spice Refinery so players can get the Spice Melange and Spice Residue they need for various recipes.

Players can use the Thumper to distract the worm and farm spice with relative safety. Just mind not being trolled by other players that could attract the worm to steal the spice spot.

Players can also gather more Spice using the Sandcrawler, one of the specialized farming vehicles in Dune: Awakening. Though this option is better for players who are playing in groups, since a Spice Farming operation using the Sandcrawlers requires various players keeping the zone safe from worms using thumpers.

Players can also loot one of the CHOAM Mining Facilities in Hagga Rift or several bandit points in the same region for a chance to obtain Spice Melange and Spice Residue from the refiners (lootable containers) in those PoIs.

How to Spot Spice Fields in Dune Awakening

Players have two options to spot Spice Fields in Dune: Awakening: The first is to be lucky and spot the zone where the meteor falls, that way they can pinpoint the exact location of the bloom with ease, since a big purple cloud will rise and can be spotted from a considerable distance.

The other option is to scout the areas where Spice Blooms tend to appear, which are most likely Open Sand areas where the Sandworm prowls. Using the Ornithopter, they can scout with more speed, and if they are lucky and the Sandworm is far, they can descend and farm spice faster before the creature even notices them.

Players can also use the Binoculars to spot the Spice Fields from afar and prepare beforehand to gather as much Spice Sand as they can before the Sandworm or other players interrupt them.
