For many years, the main way to move information from a PlayStation 3, 4, or 5 to the web has been through social media. But unfortunately, since Sony has either removed connections or is going to be removing them soon, some might be left wondering just how they are going to get their screenshots and gameplay footage from their consoles to a PC or mobile device. Thankfully, there are other options now that Twitter/X and Facebook are no longer compatible with the Sony consoles.

Social Media Removal by Sony on the PlayStation
All the way back in 2019, Sony removed Facebook and Instagram integration for the PlayStation 4 as part of a campaign to boycott the social media sites and the way they handled hate speech. As of November 13, 2023, Sony will also now be removing all integration for Twitter/X. This is following the social media site's removal from both the Xbox in April and the log-in integration from the Nintendo Switch last year.
Other Ways to Get Screengrabs and Gameplay Footage from the PlayStation 5
In spite of what appears to be most PS5 users barely caring about the change to Twitter connections, it does leave some content creators hanging; without the ability to easily send screenshots and clips to social media, some fans might find it more challenging to get these things onto their computers or mobile devices. Thankfully, there are some alternatives for anyone looking to save those precious video gaming moments.
Uploading Images and Video to the Cloud
The Cloud is a free service available with any PlayStation 5 connected to the internet, whether it has any of the levels of PlayStation Plus or not. Anything uploaded to the Cloud is available for up to two weeks, and PlayStation users can download items from the app. Unfortunately, this app is not available for PCs or Macs at this time, and it has some other limitations as well.
- Clips must be 1920x1080 in or lower in resolution.
- Videos longer than 3 minutes are not uploaded to the Cloud.
- Click here to download the PlayStation application for an iOS or Android device.
- All screencaps and small enough videos will be loaded automatically to the Cloud; in order to upload anything older, players will have to go into the menu and select the items to upload. Then press the three dots in the bottom right of the screen and select Upload to PlayStation app.
YouTube Uploading and Twitch Streaming
Unlike other social media sites, the YouTube uploader is still available for anyone who has an account. This is a great alternative to anyone who is looking to upload long videos from their PlayStation 5, as YouTube can handle the longest, biggest, one-hour videos players can record. PlayStation users can also stream live to Twitch.
USB Copying for Sceenshots and Video
Players can also use a USB Drive or other storage device to move videos and screengrabs from their PS5 to a computer. If the video is too large for the Cloud and they do not have a YouTube account, a drive can be connected to the PS5 through any of the USB drives on the device.
