Once Human gives players a huge amount of freedom in how they customize their character. Individual gear pieces will mostly have basic stats, but individual pieces can be equipped with mods to boost different stats, while sets can be found and worn to give greater bonuses to players.

Getting the benefits of gear sets can greatly strengthen the player, but this will force the character to look a specific way. Luckily, players in Once Human can change the appearance of gear pieces or even hide gear's appearance to fully customize how their player looks while still wearing the best gear for their build.

How To Modify Gear In Once Human

As players explore abandoned structures and fight powerful monsters, they will often get gear mods as loot. Gear mods are a set bonus that can be applied to any piece of gear as long as that gear piece is the same tier as the mode. Gear mods can be placed on gear at any time by hovering over a gear piece in the menu and right-clicking to open up the mod menu. Next to the name of the gear piece will be its tier level, indicating which mods can be equipped on it.

Gear mods can be taken off and put on other gear pieces without any cost or penalties, letting players mix and match as often as they want to try out different options. There are no negative effects to using mods, so mix and match your mods to find the best ones to complement the guns you crafted.

How To Change Gear Appearance In Once Human

Some gear pieces in Once Human may have great stats but don't look the best. When hovering over gear in the gear menu, pressing V will hide that gear piece on the player. This is especially helpful for those who want to hide any hats, helmets, or masks to see the character they created. Players can also use the Fashion menu to permanently set the appearance of a gear item on their character.

These cosmetics can be earned in a few different ways:

  • Complete Active Events
  • Purchased in the shop using Crystgin
  • Obtained from the battle pass
  • Found in seasonal crates

Cosmetics can come as individuals, letting players mix and match to make their character look however they want. Equipping cosmetics is done on the cosmetic screen, going to each gear slot individually and picking the cosmetic item for that slot. Once a cosmetic is set in the Fashion menu, the player's appearance won't change if they change gear, and will only change if they return to the Fashion menu and take off the cosmetic. There are also premium costumes that change the loot of all gear slots, but these are much rarer and cost more when purchasing them in the shop.
