HBO's highly anticipated Harry Potter series has generated plenty of attention and excitement among muggles worldwide, and the brain behind the entire story, JK Rowling, is involved in creating it.
Rowling has previously been confirmed as an Executive Producer for the Harry Potter TV series, ensuring that she will have some control of the property that she created despite the controversy that surrounds her nowadays. Unlike when the movies were being made, Rowling is now a contentious figure in the eyes of the public, which means there are many people who could be off-put by that.
Why HBO's Harry Potter TV Series Is Doomed To Fail
Audiences are excited about HBO's upcoming Harry Potter TV series, but despite the hype, it is doomed to fail.
Speaking in a Q&A to reporters, per Indie Wire, HBO's CEO Casey Bloys confirmed that Rowling remains "fairly involved" in the TV development of her books. He said, "[Rowling's] been fairly involved in the process of selecting the writer and director," while adding, "I imagine she'll have opinions on casting. It hasn't affected the casting or hiring of writers and production staff, so we haven't felt an impact from that."
HBO announced a casting call in the UK for the upcoming Harry Potter series, focusing specifically on the three lead roles: Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger, all of which will obviously have significant roles to play throughout the entire series.. However, it has since been reported by Variety that Mark Rylance is the number one choice to take on the role of Professor Albus Dumbledore, another significant character in this story. As one of the most powerful wizards in existance, the character plays a crucial part in the overall story. During the movies, the role was first played by Richard Harris, and after his passing, it was taken on by Michael Gambon. In flashback scenes, Toby Regbo was showcased as a younger version of the character, while Jude Law played the iconic wizard in the prequel Fantastic Beasts franchise.
HBO has previously confirmed that the TV series will be a faithful adaptation of her original Harry Potter novels, with each book slated to get its own individual season dedicated to it. Succession producers Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod have been hired to head the creative for this highly anticipated series, with Gardiner also set to work as the showrunner and executive producer. Meanwhile, Mylod will also executive produce and direct multiple episodes of the show. No premiere date has been announced at this stage, but it isn't expected to be until 2027 at the earliest as the entire cast still needs to be put together.
Nobody knows the Harry Potter universe and the characters involved better than Rowling, so having her provide help will undoubtedly be a valuable tool for those working on the project to ask questions and bounce ideas off. Her involvement will certainly spark debate amongst fans due to the public perception of the author, which was apparent when some attempted to organize a boycott over her association with Hogwarts Legacy. But the Harry Potter franchise is her creation, and its legacy is something that she's always going to have a say in.
