Groudon is most famous for being one of the two boxart monsters for the third generation of Pokemon games, Pokemon Ruby and Pokemon Sapphire, for the Game Boy Advance. And now, with the additional Legendary Pokemon to catch in The Indigo Disk DLC for Scarlet and Violet, you can catch Groudon in the Paldea region. Here's how to encounter the powerful Ground-type beast.
How to Get a Groudon Treat in The Indigo Disk
Snacksworth Location
The only way to catch Groudon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is to purchase The Indigo Disk DLC and roll credits on the main story. Once you do that, a man dressed in black named Snacksworth will appear at the front entrance of Blueberry Academy. He'll give you Legendary Pokemon Treats at random in exchange for completing BBQs (Blueberry Quests). However, depending on the version you're playing, some Pokemon can only be obtained by completing Group BBQs, which means you need to connect online and find a friend to play with.
If you're playing Pokemon Scarlet, you can get Groudon by turning in Solo Quests. But if you're playing Violet, you must turn in Group Quests.
How to Get Kyogre in The Indigo Disk DLC (Pokemon Scarlet & Violet)
After beating the main story of The Indigo Disk DLC and rolling credits, you can speak to Snacksworth to make Legendary Pokemon appear.
Groudon Location in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
Where's Groudon at?
You can check out the screenshots below for a straightforward route to Groudon; otherwise, you can follow the steps below as well:
- To start, fly to Alfornada and walk west of the Pokemon Center to reach the entrance of Alfornada Caverns --this is where Groudon resides.
- Follow the path into the cave; once you see the first trainer, walk to the right until you're almost to the edge of the cliff and use your Koraidon/Miraidon mount to fly over to the cliff at the opposite end, to the east.
- Once you have made it over, walk to the southeast corner of the rocky terrain, where Groudon is standing menacingly.
- Press the A button, and the battle will begin.
- Of course, just deal enough damage and try to inflict a status effect like Paralyze or Sleep to have a better chance at catching Groudon. You can always use a Master Ball if you get tired of chucking Ultra/Dusk Balls.
If you accidentally knock out Groudon (be careful using Water, Grass, and Ice-type attacks), you can easily restart your game and encounter him again in the same spot. It's worth noting that Groudon is a Shiny-locked legendary.
Groudon's Moves
Upon catching Groudon, the Ground-type Pokemon will be at level 70. It will know the following moves as well:
|

Hammer Arm |

The target faints instantly if this attack hits. |

This makes the user's Pokemon go to sleep for two turns. This fully restores HP and cures status conditions. |
