Air vehicles are a core part of the gameplay experience when playing on the larger maps of Battlefield 6. They are extremely powerful in the right hands, and a good pilot can single-handedly turn the tide of the match if they can hit all the right targets. However, flying planes and helicopters takes skill, and to further complicate things, there aren't many of these vehicles to go around.
As with all things, practice makes perfect, but learning how to fly a plane in Battlefield 6 is hard when your team's only jet is always occupied by someone else. In this guide, we'll be showing you where you can practice your flying skills as well as some tips on how to be a better pilot.

How to Practice Flying in Battlefield 6
As of writing, the best place to practice air vehicles is through Battlefield 6 Portal. There are already many different player-made experiences that are all about learning how to fly.
To start, go to the Community tab from the main menu, then select the Browse Servers button. You'll then be sent to a screen showing all the servers available in your region. Look around if there are any air vehicle training lobbies available, then join one of them.
If you'd much rather practice solo, you can host a Portal Experience yourself. Find an air vehicle practice server from the server browser, then press the View Server Info button shown on the right side of the screen, under the Experience's description. Scroll down the info window, then select Host/Host Locally.
Verified servers typically host official game modes with altered rules. These cannot be hosted locally, but they'll give you full XP like a normal game would. On the other hand, Custom game modes can be hosted locally, letting you bypass the dreaded Global Game Quota Exceeded Error in BF6. However, you won't get XP here the same way you would in Verified Portal modes.
Here are a few Portal Experience codes you can try for practicing/testing air vehicles:
- DXS4: Vehicle and Soldier Shooting Range by AP_Atipoya
- 6GVY: Helicopter and Jets Practice by Tricky
- X8XB: Ace Pursuit by Battlefield Official
To use these codes, go to Search Experiences, then type them into the Experience Code text bar on the left side of the screen.
How to Get Jets & Helis in Battlefield 6
If you're playing the regular BF6 game modes, you can enter a chopper or jet directly from the spawn screen by clicking on their respective icons at your team's base. Vehicle limits vary depending on the game mode and map, and if you really want to play with air vehicles, we recommend playing Escalation on Operation Firestorm or Mirak Valley.
Firestorm and Mirak Valley have large play spaces, and they feature both jets and helicopters. Once the round progresses enough, your team will get access to both vehicle types.
At the start of every match, players will instead have to physically run up to a nearby air vehicle and enter it from there (in most cases).
Piloting Tips
- Go to Settings—>Gameplay—>Vehicles, then turn on Helicopter Control Assists. This will make it so your helicopter automatically hovers when no control input is detected.
- If you're playing on mouse and keyboard, consider rebinding your jet controls. Binding Yaw to horizontal mouse movement may help you line your shots up when going for a strafing run.
- Use Free Look to scope out targets.
- Always pay attention to the map. Before you go in for a strafing run, you should already know where your targets are.
- Focus enemy aircraft and anti-air vehicles first. Make sure to hunt them down before going for more vulnerable targets.
- When piloting a jet, know your ideal speed values for faster turning.
- Anti-air missiles have infinite vertical lock-on range. If you're trying to escape a lock, move horizontally away from the enemy instead.
