Returnal is a roguelike developed by Housemarque and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment (and is one of the most underrated games on the PS5). The game follows the story of Selene Vassos, a woman who works for ASTRA Corporation. Vassos's ship crash lands on the planet Atropos, and she is stuck there, uncovering the secrets the planet has to offer.

One thing that happens during Vassos's experience on the planet is that she runs into Xenoglyphs, which are the writings of the beings on the planet. While trying to decipher these, Vassos discovers a large number of ciphers around the planet that help her translate the Xenoglyphs. Here's a breakdown of all the Xenoglyphs in the game.

Returnal: Adrenaline Levels Explained

Adrenaline is a key feature of Returnal, allowing players to stack bonuses the longer they can go without taking damage from Atropos' many hazards.

What Are Xenoglyphs In Returnal

As mentioned above, the Xenoglyphs are the writings of the beings that are found on the planet. Unfortunately, they are written in a language that cannot be understood, forcing Vassos to translate them. Thankfully, there are around 71 Xenoglyph Ciphers around the map that will allow her to figure out what these Xenoglyphs say. While they are not necessary for completing the game, they do offer players valuable information about the planet, and they add to the lore of the game. They are one of the reasons that this game is one of the darkest roguelikes to date. Plus, they are connected to a few different Achievements/Trophies for players wanting to do 100% of the game.

Returnal Xenoglyphs Logs

There are 21 Xenoglyphs in the game, and in order to read them, players will need to collect the many different ciphers around the game. Once those are collected, tiers of the translations will be unlocked, allowing the player to slowly translate them. After reaching the third tier, the translation will be available for the player to read in its entirety. Here is the number, name, and location of each of the Xenoglyphs.
