Matt Smith has finally given his opinion surrounding a favorite House of the Dragon fan theory that revolves around his character Daemon Targaryen becoming the Three-Eyed Raven, connecting him to the wider Game of Thrones lore. Daemon, who viewers love to hate, will be an important key player as the show's narrative moves into season 3 of the highly anticipated HBO show. At the end of season 2 of House of the Dragon, fans saw the uncle and royal consort of Queen Rhaenyra, repledge his loyalty once more in a bid to stand by Rhaenyra as she takes on the dangerous challenge of acquiring the Iron Throne.
Based on George R.R. Martin's novel Fire & Blood, House of the Dragon focuses on the fall of the House Targaryen as the clan ascends into a huge civil war where families are broken apart by greed and betrayal. Season three will follow on from the epic tale that the House of the Dragon season 2 finale left off, but now, the stakes are even higher as the Targaryen dynasty will continue to reign, by fire and by blood. The show's return to Westeros will be greater than it ever was before now that The Battle of the Gullet is fast approaching, which was confirmed by showrunner Ryan Condal, as well as some leaked set photos that showcase Season 3 will commence with its bloodiest and most important naval war yet. As viewers wait with bated breath for season 3's release date, Matt Smith dives into Deamon's most popular fan theory that has plagued the show's fandom.

Anticipation is building around House of the Dragon Season 3, but will it correct the wrongs of Season 2?
Matt Smith Comments on Daemon Becoming the Three-Eyed Raven Fan Theory
In a recent video interview with Entertainment Weekly, which also included Emma D'Arcy and Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith, who plays Daemon Targaryen in House of the Dragon, responded to the fan theory that his character in the epic fantasy series could be the Three-Eyed Raven. Although Smith seemed a little confused about how to properly answer the theory, he did humorously say, "Interesting. I hope so. Good one. I like that." The theory in question comes from House of the Dragon's season 2 finale, where Daemon sees something pretty important in the future while touching the Weirwood tree. Daemon's vision includes Brynden Rivers (Lord Bloodraven), who is the same Greenseer that helped Bran Stark in his journey to understanding his destiny in Game of Thrones.
This particular fan theory, even though it's really intriguing, isn't likely to happen unless the House of the Dragon showrunners have decided to change the narrative from the books, something that its fanbase would likely have an issue with. Although if this fan theory were to come true, the idea would be that Daemon would steadily hone more and more Greenseer abilities, probably in secret, and possibly use these abilities for his own power-hungry agenda. This would then cause a huge rift between him and Rhaenyra, in which she would feel betrayed yet again.
So far, House of the Dragon season 3 is getting pretty full of new cast members. Andor actor Joplin Sibtain has been cast to play Ser “Bold”, with others including Barry Sloane as Ser Adrian Redfort and Tom Cullen as Ser Luthor Largent, James Norton as Ormund Hightower, Tommy Flanagan as Roddy the Ruin, Peter Polycarpou as Lord Gaunt, and Dan Fogler as Ser Torrhen Manderly.
A release date for the third season of House of the Dragon hasn't yet been announced, but it's likely fans won't see new episodes until the summer of 2026.
