The Best War Games can exclusively reveal the Horrified: Dungeons and Dragons box cover artwork. The illustration serves as direct confirmation of several Dungeons and Dragons monsters that will be featured in the upcoming tabletop game.

Horrified is a series of horror board games developed by German toy and puzzle manufacturer Ravensbruger. Since 2019, the company launched multiple editions of Horrified, inspired by everything from Universal monsters and Greek mythology to American urban legends and Krampus.

The sixth edition of the horror board game, Horrified: Dungeons and Dragons, was originally announced in January 2025. A month later, Ravensbruger shared the product's official cover artwork, which The Best War Games can now exclusively reveal. The illustration confirms the game's inclusion of three classic Dungeons and Dragons monsters: the Displacer Beast, Mimic, and Red Dragon.

The newly revealed cover also features a singular Beholder, also known as the Eye Tyrant in Dungeons and Dragons monster lore. This many-eyed abomination was already confirmed to be featured in the new edition of Horrified as part of the board game's original announcement. The artwork even appears to include some playful wordplay referencing the Eye Tyrant, with a tagline that reads: "terror is in the eye of the beholder."

As was the case with the past editions of Ravensburger's board game, the main goal of Horrified: Dungeons and Dragons will be to defeat a certain number of monsters within a set number of turns—before they wreak too much carnage by killing villagers. Each turn begins with a hero phase, during which players can move around the board, collect and use items, and leverage their special abilities, among other activities. Then comes the monster phase, which starts with drawing a monster card that changes board conditions in a variety of ways. Every monstrosity has its own mini-quest that needs to be completed before players can eliminate it. Monster behavior varies by creature, with some cards exerting greater board pressure than others. Lore-wise, the Red Dragon is the biggest threat out of all the Dungeons and Dragons monsters that have so far been confirmed for the board game.

Horrified: Dungeons and Dragons is still waiting for a concrete release date, with Ravensburger so far only stating that it's targeting a summer 2025 launch. The tabletop game will be designed by Peter Lee, who's also credited with authoring the original, 2019 iteration of Horrified. The game's Dungeons and Dragons-themed edition is planned to retail for $29.99, and will be available for purchase internationally.
