After many years, the moment that Aloy has been training for has finally arrived in the third main quest of Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered. If she wants answers about her origins, she will have to win the Proving and become a part of the Nora tribe. This is another fairly brief main quest, but it is certainly a fairly action-packed quest. Here is what you can expect as you begin the third main quest, The Proving.
This walkthrough contains spoilers, proceed with caution.
How to Upgrade to Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered on PS5 and PC
Those who own the original game on the PlayStation 4 can upgrade to Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered for just $10, as too can some PC players.
The Proving
After the cutscene ends, a herd of machines will come running by. Kill one and then loot it. Unfortunately, Bast proves to be a nuisance and destroys it. Kill another machine and loot it. Once you've done that, head toward the path with an archway and start running.
Run along the narrow ledge and climb up the rock walls as you go. After the cutscene, continue running along the path and then use the zipline to quickly go down toward the path. Run along the tree and then climb up the wall to continue going down the old path. Continue following this trail until you reach a dead end with a tree. Use the tree to rappel down.
Continue onward up the path ahead of you. There isn't anything to find in this section of the game, so just focus on running, follow the path, and try to avoid falling off. Continue running along the trail and then use the zipline to get ahead of the other contestants. This triggers a cutscene where your victory is, unfortunately, short-lived.
Fend Off the Attackers
Once the cutscene ends, you will have your first encounter with human enemies. There will be several archers on the ridge directly ahead of you. Quickly take them out and get ready to deal with the next group of reinforcements that arrive.
In this wave, however, you will have to worry about archers and melee attackers who will run at you with a spear. Don't stand still for long, as there will be multiple enemies trying to hit you at the same time. When there is a lull in attacks, you can loot bodies for arrows or healing potions if you need them.
The third wave will be much more intense. This is a much larger group and one of them is armed with a machine gun. Wait for him to stop firing before you emerge from cover and then shoot him with an arrow before getting back into cover.
If you are closer to the leader, you will see him kneeling down to reload his gun. This is a good opportunity to attack as he is vulnerable for a few seconds.
After he dies, if you want to save some arrows, pick up his machine gun and use it to take out any remaining attackers. Once it is clear, loot the enemy that was using the machine gun. While he doesn't have anything noteworthy on him, this does trigger a cutscene which ends the current main quest.
