Horizon Zero Dawn is unique in its offerings, allowing players to combat massive mechanical robots. However, it’s not guns that are used to dispatch these beasts; instead, players rely mostly on bows and arrows.
Horizon Zero Dawn features a variety of unique weapons, many of which are suited for specific tasks. One such weapon is the Tripcaster, which can be a game-changer if you know how to use it effectively. The guide below details how to acquire this incredible weapon and how to use it to its full potential.
Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster Has Controversial Requirement on PC
The Horizon Zero Dawn remaster confirms a controversial requirement for those hoping to pick up the PC version of the game.
How To Get Tripcaster in Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered
Acquiring the Tripcaster in Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is straightforward. You’ll receive it early in the game as you progress through the main story. During the main mission "The Point of the Spear," you'll be tasked with trading with Karst, who is located southwest of Mother’s Cradle. Here, you can purchase the Tripcaster in exchange for a Scrapper Lens.
By this point, you should already have a Scrapper Lens. If not, head to a nearby Scrapper location; all general robot locations are marked on the map. Once you have the necessary materials, return to Karst and obtain the Tripcaster. You’ll then receive a tutorial quest for the Tripcaster, which you can either complete or skip, though it’s recommended to complete it to understand how the weapon functions.
Don’t forget to equip your newly acquired Tripcaster in the Inventory tab.
How To Efficiently Use Tripcaster in Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered
Completing the tutorial should give you a basic understanding of how the Tripcaster works, but using it efficiently is where the real skill lies.
The Tripcaster fires a projectile that creates a tripwire between two points chosen by the player. When an enemy—whether robot or human—crosses the wire, the trap explodes, dealing damage to the unfortunate soul (or hunk of metal).
The Tripcaster is especially effective against machines due to its high damage potential. To set up an ambush, hide in tall grass and use your Focus to reveal the robot’s patrol path. Then, place a tripwire along its route. Once the robot triggers the trap, it’s time to emerge from hiding and finish the job.
At first, you’ll only have access to the standard Tripcaster, which uses Shock Wire ammo. Eventually, you’ll unlock upgraded versions of the Tripcaster that allow the use of Blast Wire and Fire Wire, as well.
Be sure to purchase the Disarm Traps skill from the Skill Menu, as it lets you pick up already deployed, non-triggered traps.
