Honkai: Star Rail's meta is quickly changing with the arrival of new characters, as well as the evolving combat mechanics in each update. After the Penacony arc, Honkai: Star Rail is rumored to be debuting a new toughness mechanic that might change the way fans play.
For the last few updates, Honkai; Star Rail teams have been catering to the Break Effect meta because of the Harmony Trailblazer's Super Break ability and Firefly's strong attacks that can reduce enemies' toughness. Many fans expected this meta to last until the next Trailblazer variant is introduced, and it seems like the leaked toughness type might be a step above it.
Honkai: Star Rail's Break Effect and Follow-Up Attack Characters May Shine in the Rumored New Meta
According to a recent leak, Honkai: Star Rail Version 2.5 is allegedly introducing a new toughness type called "Feigned Toughness." Enemies will reportedly have two toughness bars, which can trigger two Weakness Breaks if they're both reduced to zero. Many Honkai: Star Rail fans believe that this rumored toughness type will benefit characters like Firefly and Himeko because Weakness Breaks trigger certain abilities.
Firefly's attacks are meant to deal significant damage to enemies, and even apply Fire weakness on them, so she can easily reduce their toughness. If Autoreactive Armor is activated in her Traces tree, she can trigger Super Break DMG on a weakness-broken enemy while Complete Combustion is active, which can greatly diminish the toughness bar. This can also be amplified further if Harmony Trailblazer and Ruan Mei are in Firefly's team.
The Best Firefly Break Effect Team
- Firefly (Fire, Destruction): Main damage dealer
- Trailblazer (Imaginary, Harmony): Buffer that allows allies to deal Super Break DMG
- Ruan Mei (Ice, Harmony): Buffs allies' RES-PEN to deal more damage
- Gallagher (Fire, Abundance) or Huohuo (Wind, Abundance): Healer and cleanser
Meanwhile, Himeko's follow-up attack, Victory Rush, is triggered after three Weakness Breaks. With the rumored Feigned Toughness, Himeko's follow-up attacks would come at closer intervals. It's also possible for follow-up attack (FUA) teams to become meta in the next few updates in order to complement Himeko's abilities.
The Best Himeko Follow-Up Attack Team
- Himeko (Fire, Erudition): Main damage dealer, triggers follow-up attack after three Weakness Break
- Herta (Ice, Erudition): Sub-DPS, triggers follow-up attack when enemies are 50% health
- Robin (Physical, Harmony): Buffs ATK and CRIT Rate
- Aventurine (Imaginary, Preservation): Provides shields and triggers a follow-up attack after Blind Bet reaches seven points
Honkai: Star Rail's Feixiao Can Become the Star of the New Meta
A brand-new meta also means that the next Honkai: Star Rail characters will be ideal to use against enemies with the rumored Feigned Toughness. Version 2.5's 5-star banner character Feixiao, a Wind-type The Hunt unit, is said to have the ability to reduce enemies' toughness. According to Feixiao's leaked kit, her Weakness Break Efficiency increases if she's up against an enemy with an intact toughness bar. If their weakness is broken, Feixiao's damage multiplier increases instead, which is a sign that she's going to be a strong DPS unit.
Feixiao's kit hasn't been officially confirmed by Honkai: Star Rail, and is still subject to change until the character's launch in Version 2.5.
It's still too early to determine which characters work well with Feixiao. But if the leaks about her ability kit are to be believed, it's possible that Break Effect buffers like Harmony Trailblazer and Ruan Mei might be the perfect fit. Honkai: Star Rail could also pair up Feixiao and Firefly to deal massive damage to enemies, turning them into an unstoppable duo on the battlefield. It will be interesting to see how Feixiao and other characters will thrive in the rumored Feigned Toughness meta, and how players will creatively form teams with the characters that they have.
