The Amphoreus arc introduces a jam-packed cast of new playable characters, which includes the much-awaited Limited 5-star Imaginary-Destruction unit: Mydei. He was announced through Honkai Star Rail's drip marketing social media posts during Version 2.6 and made his appearance as an NPC in Version 3.0. Some players are already sold on him because of his looks and story. Those looking for a more objective reason to pull him are in luck, as a recent leak shows he could be one of the most devastating HP-based damage dealers in the Honkai: Star Rail.

Mydei is the Crown Prince and leader of the Kremnoan detachment in Castrum Kremnos, one of Amphoreus' major cities. He's also known as the undying Mydeimos, which hints at his in-game abilities. A recent leak by a reliable source named Hakush.in claimed that Mydei's kit uses his HP to enhance his attacks.

A Honkai: Star Rail leak reveals how well the new 5-star Mydei performs in different team compositions.

A new Honkai: Star Rail leak reveals how well Mydei performs when placed in the same team composition as Sunday, Loucha, Gallagher, and others.

How Mydei’s HP-Based Damage Kit Fits in Honkai: Star Rail’s Meta

Mydei’s playstyle revolves around the use of his talent and ultimate to enhance his skill. Here’s a level 10 description of these abilities.

The ability descriptions for Mydei's kit are based on leaked information at the time of writing. Therefore, players should expect changes to the character's kit once he's officially released.

  • Talent - Blood for Blood: Mydei gains an amount of charge when he loses HP. Once full, he will go into his "Vendetta" state, which advances his action immediately, makes him immune to crowd control, and enhances his skill to deal more damage. There will also be a separate tally of the HP he loses in his Vendetta state. When it reaches 180%, he advances and uses the most powerful enhancement of his skill, "Godslayer be God."
  • Skill: This consumes a portion of Mydei's HP to deal a percentage of his Max HP in Imaginary DMG to an enemy and adjacent targets. There are three versions of this ability.
Skill Description
Base - Deaths are Legion, Regrets are None This consumes 50% of Mydei's HP to deal Imaginary damage equal to 90% of Mydei's Max HP to a primary target and 50% to adjacent enemies.
Enhanced - Kingslayer be King Consumes 35% of Mydei's current HP and deals Imaginary DMG equal 100% of his Max HP to the main target and 60% to adjacent opponents.
Enhanced - Godslayer be God This deals Imaginary DMG equal to 100% of Mydei's Max HP plus 100% of the HP he lost during his Vendetta state. He will also unleash another wave of damage equal to 60% of his Max HP plus 60% of his Tally HP.
  • Ultimate - Throne of Bones: Restores HP equal to 15% of the unit’s Max HP and deals damage equal to 160% of Mydei’s HP to a primary target, and 100% to adjacent enemies. Each target will also be taunted towards Mydei for one turn. If Mydei is in his Vendetta state after activating his ult, he immediately gains a tally equal to 30% of his Max HP.

Mydei Could be Blade’s Long-Awaited Successor

HSR veterans may have noticed that there hasn’t been a strong HP-based damage dealer since Blade and Jingliu, who have both fallen off the meta. Mydei seems to fill this gap better than both of the previous units. His built-in taunt ensures that enemies prioritize him as a target so he can lose HP and improve his damage efficiently. This is an ability that Blade sorely lacks. Mydei also has relatively better multipliers for his enhanced skill compared to Blade’s enhanced basic attack. Mydei’s HP loss tally system is superior, as he can use its bonus damage more consistently through his skill, compared to Blade, who can only use his HP tally bonuses during his ultimate.

Mydei Could be a Great Answer to HSR’s Fastest Bosses

It seems that Honkai: Star Rail’s bosses are only getting faster and tankier with every update. Mydei could be the answer to these tough enemies, as his damage output only gets better as his HP gets shredded. Players looking for a risky, but rewarding gameplay should save their Stellar Jades and Star Rail Special Passes for this unit. However, they should prepare to use him more in manual mode and get his ideal emergency healers like Luocha and Lingsha to maximize his damage without getting his HP into K.O. Territory.
