Simulated Universe is one of the most important features in Honkai: Star Rail and it’s made by some members of the Genius Society. The first creator that people will meet is Herta, and later on, Screwllum will also appear. Meanwhile, Ruan Mei can only be found in a random event in the Simulated Universe.
In Honkai: Star Rail 1.6, however, Ruan Mei becomes playable as the second 5-star Harmony character, preceding the Belobog’s Supreme Guardian, Bronya. While some people may be wondering whether they should get Ruan Mei if they have Bronya, some others wish to know if they should pull for Ruan Mei or Blade since they’re featured at the same time.
Honkai: Star Rail – The Best Ruan Mei Light Cone
Ruan Mei can make her Honkai: Star Rail team excellent at depleting Toughness, but her best Light Cone can make a massive difference.
Ruan Mei Or Blade In Honkai: Star Rail
Ruan Mei is an Ice-Harmony character, while Honkai: Star Rail Blade is a Wind-Destruction unit. They’re featured together in version 1.6, so if players wonder whether they should pull for Ruan Mei or Blade in Honkai: Star Rail, they can try learning some key points about them, like their roles and suitable teams.
Roles
As their Path dictates, Ruan Mei is a buffer, whereas Blade is a DPS unit in Honkai: Star Rail. Ruan Mei also deals Break DMG on several parts of her kit, but considering she’s a Harmony character, it’s best if people know what buff she provides.
Ruan Mei can do the following for the party as a buffer:
- Boosts the team's Break Effect by 20%
- With her Skill, Ruan Mei increases the team's DMG and Weakness Break Efficiency for three turns
- For every 10% of Ruan Mei's Break Effect that exceeds 120%, her Skill also increases allies' DMG by 6% (up to 36%)
- Her Ultimate creates a field that lasts for two turns, increasing All-Type RES PEN for the team, and while the enemy’s Toughness is broken, it delays their action when they're hit
- Her Talent increases SPD for her teammates (except herself)
- After using Ruan Mei’s technique in the Simulated Universe, any attack will reduce the enemy's Toughness. For every Blessing the players have (up to 20), increase the Toughness reduction by up to 100%
Not only does Ruan Mei come with various buffs, but her ability to quickly break the enemy’s Toughness and delay their action means the team will get attacked less and deal greater damage. This is because when an enemy is on Weakness Break, they take 10% more damage, and the action delay means the team will be safe from hits until the opponent moves again.
Honkai: Star Rail - Ruan Mei Ascension and Trace Materials
Ruan Mei's weekly boss materials in Honkai: Star Rail was released alongside her in version 1.6.
Meanwhile, here is a summary of Blade’s abilities as a DPS:
- Consumes HP with his Skill and enters the Hellscape State, enabling enhanced Basic Attack for three turns; this Skill doesn't end the current turn. In this state, his Skill will be unavailable
- In the Hellscape State, consumes HP when using enhanced Basic Attack, dealing damage based on his ATK and Max HP; this Basic Attack doesn't regenerate Skill Points (SP)
- Blade's Ultimate sets his HP to 50% of his max HP, healing him if he's at low HP, and hurting him when he has high HP. The DMG dealt scales with his ATK, Max HP, and the HP he lost in this battle. The HP-loss count resets every time he uses his Ultimate
- Talent gains one charge each time Blade loses HP, up to five times. At five stacks, deal DMG based on Blade's ATK and Max HP while healing himself by 25% of Blade's Max HP
Blade’s kits all synergize with each other and allow him to be a top-tier Destruction character in Honkai: Star Rail. He can survive battle easily despite the constant HP consumption because he has two sources of self-healing, and since his damage primarily scales with his max HP, players will also stack a ton of HP on him, further increasing his survivability.
Teams
When it comes to teams, Ruan Mei generally fits in any team that needs a buffer, but she shines the brightest when the party focuses on Weakness Break. For instance, units like Xueyi work amazingly with Ruan Mei since Xueyi’s kit revolves around Weakness Break. Silver Wolf can also enable various Weakness Break teams with the Member #81 of the Genius Society. Other than that, thanks to the action delay Ruan Mei provides, the team should be safe with a mediocre healer like Huohuo.
Honkai: Star Rail – Ruan Mei Build Guide
Honkai: Star Rail's Ruan Mei is quite easy to build while also providing exceptional utility for the team.
Meanwhile, Blade is excellent with teammates that revolve around HP loss, getting hit, taunt, and units that demand a lot of Skill Points. For instance, characters like Lynx can give HP to Blade and cause enemies to hit him more often. Similarly, Fu Xuan increases the party’s max HP while also greatly reducing the damage taken, making it even safer to play Blade on taunt. Luocha has none of the things listed, but his auto-healing works perfectly with Blade’s HP-loss mechanic, especially right before he uses his Ultimate. Jingliu is also great since her mechanics revolve around her teammates' HP, especially with her Light Cone, I Shall Be My Own Sword. Finally, characters like Imbibitor Lunae, who’s extremely demanding with Skill Points, will work just fine with Blade. Even though the Stellaron Hunter doesn’t restore Skill Point, he only spends one SP every three turns.
Verdict: Ruan Mei VS Blade In Honkai: Star Rail
In short, players should pull for Ruan Mei if:
- Have more DPS than buffer and need a great Harmony character
- Need a SP-positive character
- Are interested in playing with Weakness Break
Or pull for Blade if they:
- Looking for an AoE or Wind DPS
- Want a self-sustaining DPS
- Need a DPS that doesn’t demand Skill Points
