Honkai: Star Rail continuously comes up with new mechanics for their characters to bring more variations into the gameplay. Acheron is one of the most interesting characters so far. She has no Energy bar for her Ultimate, but instead requires her team to build up her "Energy" by applying debuffs.
Considering Acheron's demanding playstyle, players may wonder whether they should pull for Acheron or Jingliu, given Jingliu is far friendlier to build and use compared to Acheron. Fortunately, for those wondering, is Acheron good? Or is Jingliu good? The answer to both questions is yes, both Acheron and Jingliu are good and worth getting. However, before you pull for either of them, you must first understand what you need to invest in each character and how they may or may not fit in your current lineups.

Pulling for Acheron or Jingliu is arguably the hardest decision in Honkai: Star Rail. Both units are exceptional damage dealers who can clear content quickly. Luckily, there are enough differences between the two units to be able to compare them and ease that decision. The best way to compare both DPS units is by comparing their roles, builds, and teams.
Roles
Being a decorated DPS in Honkai: Star Rail like Jingliu and Acheron ensures they’re the main damage dealer in their teams. Their role is to carry the entire team’s damage by being at the end of all the buffs and debuffs their team can offer. However, their playstyle greatly changes how both can handle this responsibility.
For Acheron, she wants her team to cast debuffs continuously to build up her Ultimate. She also wants to be paired with Nihility units in Honkai: Star Rail to get an enormous damage buff from her Trace’s passive. This is crucial for her playstyle and makes it difficult for anyone else to deal damage other than her. But, despite all the limitations, Acheron can still play her role perfectly and deal a massive amount of damage.
Honkai: Star Rail – Black Swan Build Guide
Black Swan is an excellent debuffer in Honkai: Star Rail, befitting of her role as someone from the path of Nihility.
On the other hand, Jingliu doesn’t consume Skill Points, nor require a certain unit to be in her party to perform better. She’s a classical DPS that depends on buffers like Tingyun and debuffers like Pela in Honkai: Star Rail. The freedom Jingliu gives allows you to include another DPS in the team.
In terms of roles, the main difference between the two is that Jingliu will move often due to her ability to advance her own actions, while Acheron is an Ultimate-bot who only waits until her Ultimate is available to attack.
Builds
While being amazing at dealing damage, Jingliu suffers from a hurtful low Base SPD, which makes building her on SPD even harder. Even with her Traces covering some SPD back, she still needs many SPD sub-stats to go along with her speedy shoes to keep up with others’ SPD. Building Jingliu on 4pc Hunter of Glacial Forest and Rutilant Arena with a good F2P 5-star Destruction Light Cone like On the Fall of an Aeon should be enough to make her one of the best damage dealers in the game.
Honkai: Star Rail – Dr. Ratio Build Guide
Dr. Ratio build in Honkai: Star Rail mixes Imaginary bonus Relics with extra follow-up attack damage.
For Acheron, it’s not that easy either. In fact, Nothing can come close to her best-in-slot Light Cone, Along the Passing Shore, when it comes to damage. All other Light Cones massively underperform under her BiS, which makes it hard to settle with her second-best. As for Relics, 4pc Pioneer Diver of Dead Waters is her best since it keeps her buffed against debuffed enemies, which is exactly what she needs. For Planar Ornaments, go for Izumo Gensei and Takama Divine Realm since she will always be teamed with another Nihility unit in Honkai: Star Rail.
In terms of build, Jingliu is far more F2P friendly than Acheron.
Teams
Both Acheron and Jingliu must have the team revolve around them, but Jingliu can be less selfish and include another DPS. She’s also a part of an amazing synergy with Blade since she can continuously consume his HP and take a massive buff to her ATK. Both units barely use any Skill Points which gives Supports the freedom to use their Skills regularly without any setbacks.
Honkai: Star Rail – The Best Weapons For Kafka
Kafka is an amazing DoT character in Honkai: Star Rail that doesn't require specific Light Cones to perform.
As for Acheron, she's more restricted since she requires at least one other Nihility character in her team. Players can go for Pela for this slot, or combine Kafka + Black Swan with Acheron. For the sustainer slot, you can use Aventurine or Gallagher in Honkai: Star Rail, since both can apply debuff in some ways. Powerful Harmony like Sparkle can also offset the bonus Acheron gains from having two Nihility in the team.
In terms of team building, Jingliu fits in more teams than Acheron. Acheron's team is limited and requires far more investment compared to Jingliu's.
Verdict: Acheron VS Jingliu In Honkai: Star Rail
After assessing each aspect of the characters, here's the verdict if you're still confused about whether you should get Acheron or Jingliu.
Pull for Acheron if you:
- Have two Nihility characters to pair with her, or one Nihility and Sparkle
- If you're willing to get her E2, then you'll be fine with one Nihility character like Pela
- Don't mind the limited team comp
- Ready to invest in Acheron's demanding team composition
- Willing to pull for Acheron's signature weapon
- Don't have a Lightning DPS
Pull for Jingliu if you:
- Prefer a flexible and F2P character
- Don't have an Ice DPS
- Have a decent weapon like S5 On the Fall of an Aeon
