Cipher’s A2 requires her to have 170 SPD to get 50% Crit Rate and 100% more value on her recorded DMG. This means any Relic sets that give Cipher SPD% are good Relics for her build in HSR. Relic sets that give SPD include Warrior Goddess of Sun and Thunder, Sacerdos' Relived Ordeal, and Messenger Traversing Hackerspace.
In battle, Cipher doesn’t need to keep using her Skill, which makes her SP friendly. Players may notice that Cipher’s Basic Attack, Skill, and Follow-up Attacks all deal mediocre DMG. This is because most of Cipher’s DMG comes from her Ultimate. When a character in the team deals DMG, Cipher records a portion of the DMG. Later, players can unleash this recorded DMG with her Ultimate. The recorded DMG will be unleashed as True DMG, a type of DMG that bypasses all DEF and RES, and doesn’t scale with bonuses like DMG bonus or Crit. Since her Ultimate doesn’t need any DMG bonus, players can build Cipher with more SPD and sustainability.
Cipher does scale with ATK and Crit on the rest of her attacks, but her scaling is not that impressive, so she won’t lose that much DMG if players choose to focus on her SPD and defensive stats.
When playing Cipher, it’s important not to use her Ultimate recklessly. It’s best to save it for an enemy with high HP or one that is alone. So, auto-battle may be ineffective for Cipher.
Best Cipher Light Cones In HSR - Honkai: Star Rail
Lies Dance on the Breeze is the best Light Cones for Cipher in HSR. This should not be a surprise since it’s her Signature Light Cone. The 5-star best-in-slot grants Cipher a whopping 18% SPD on top of up to 24% DEF-shredding debuffs. Lies Dance on the Breeze is an excellent Light Cone for Cipher that complements her role as a Support/DPS. It’s a high-value Light Cone that can benefit other Nihility characters as well.
Since Cipher heavily relies on her SPD, Patience Is All You Need is a decent replacement that grants Cipher DMG and SPD buffs while adding a small DoT to her kit. Incessant Rain is also a good Light Cone for Cipher, as it buffs her stats and debuffs enemies to take 12% more DMG.
