Honkai: Star Rail's Amphoreus arc is setting up to be an exciting saga filled with new adventures and characters. Running from Version 3.0 to Version 3.7, this will be Honkai: Star Rail's longest quest story to date — quite fitting for an update that draws inspiration from Greek mythology.
As revealed during the recent Honkai: Star Rail Version 3.0 Special Program stream, Amphoreus is a secluded and dystopian world that reveres Titans as their gods. The planet is divided into cities, where heroes known as the Chrysos Heirs preside over and protect citizens while searching for the Titans' Coreflames. The Honkai: Star Rail characters from Amphoreus are all based on people from Greek mythology, and HoYoverse seems to have taken a page from Hades' playbook.
Honkai: Star Rail and Hades Are Bringing Lesser-Known Greek Myth Characters to Life
Anything based on Greek mythology usually puts the 12 Olympians at the center of the story, but Honkai: Star Rail steers clear of this frequently-used trope with the Amphoreus characters. While the Titans are loosely based on the Olympians, the Chrysos Heirs are inspired by lesser-known gods and deities.
For example, Tribbie, who is an upcoming 5-star character from the city of Janusopolis, has three faces and is said to be a messenger that travels many paths, similar to Hecate, the goddess of crossroads. Another upcoming 5-star Honkai: Star Rail character is Mydei, an undying warrior from Kremnos who seeks to relinquish the Coreflame of Strife from the fearsome Titan, Nikador. It is likely that he's based on Deimos, the son of Ares and Aphrodite, who is the personification of fear.

The approach is similar to that of Hades, a roguelike video game series that provides a new perspective on the lives of select characters from Greek mythology. In a 2021 interview with Rock Paper Shotgun, Supergiant Games writer and designer Greg Kasavin said that they wanted to expand on Hades' story as an Olympian and the other beings connected to him, such as his son and the main protagonist of the first game, Zagreus. The result is an immersive experience that not only humanizes many of the featured gods and deities, but also brings these characters to the spotlight, encouraging people to learn more about them. This continued with Hades 2, featuring Melinoe as the protagonist, and more interesting characters from Greek myths, like Hecate, Nemesis, and Moros.
It's clear that Honkai: Star Rail is putting its own spin on Greek mythology as it officially enters the Amphoreus arc. Just like the Olympians, the Titans are both a blessing and a threat to the citizens of Amphoreus, whereas the Chrysos Heirs are using their god-given powers to keep everyone safe from potential ruin. Similar to Genshin Impact's Archons, each Titan also has a corresponding Chrysos Heir, which will add more depth to the story moving forward. Likewise, Honkai: Star Rail players will also encounter many objects, locations, and NPCs that are references to the source material, such as a mischievous treasure chest thief called Zagreus.
Initial teasers for Honkai: Star Rail Version 3.0 already reveal a rich world that's filled with deep lore and vast exploration areas, giving avid players a brand-new experience in the next few months. Apart from the main story quest, there will also be a number of limited-time events that will expand Amphoreus' story further, so players can get a glimpse of what the world was like before the Titans waged war against humanity. If there's one thing that the Hades games did well that Honkai: Star Rail should definitely replicate, it's creating a narrative experience that's worth investing a lot of time in.
