- The collaboration between Honkai: Star Rail and Fate/Stay Night is already generating excitement and surpassing previous collabs.
Honkai: Star Rail is among HoYoverse's most successful games, and it has certainly carved out a unique space apart from its counterparts. While Genshin Impact and Zenless Zone Zero have both hosted collaborations, they aren't typically too ambitious. Honkai: Star Rail has rarely participated in any to begin with, but its upcoming crossover with Fate/Stay Night could be its largest scale event yet.
Fate is a multimedia series that has begun to find broad appeal through its vast range of stories. It's remarkable that Honkai: Star Rail would choose such an expansive series for its first ever crossover, but this is proving to be good news after all. The collaboration has recently unveiled an official teaser, and a number of details have already been made crystal clear.
Honkai: Star Rail's New Crossover Already Has a Lot of Potential
Honkai: Star Rail recently announced a crossover with the anime Fate/Stay Night, and it has the potential to surpass crossovers by Genshin Impact.
Honkai: Star Rail's Fate Stay Night Crossover Could Feature the Best of Both Worlds
Honkai Star Rail's Biggest Crossover Yet
HoYoverse has dabbled in plenty of collaborations, but Honkai: Star Rail isn't usually its vehicle for doing so. The game has held relatively few collabs compared to its peers. Although it was released very recently, even Zenless Zone Zero's crossover potential had seemingly exceeded Star Rail's. However, Star Rail's upcoming collab with Fate/Stay Night is already looking to surpass its predecessors.
The largest scale crossover any given gacha game can ask for is one in which guest characters become available for its players to pull and play with. Genshin Impact took this approach with its Horizon Zero Dawn collab, which made Aloy a playable character in the game. This is still the most ambitious crossover HoYo has done to date, with no guest characters being added in any of its games since. Thankfully, developers have begun to hint at change with the latest trailer for Honkai: Star Rail's upcoming characters.
Honkai: Star Rail's Collab With Fate/Stay Night Has a Fairly Revealing Trailer
Honkai: Star Rail released a new trailer at Gamescom, which served as a first look at the game's upcoming crossover with Fate/Stay Night. Coming in at around a minute and a half long, it's pleasantly sizable for a teaser. While the event certainly has a lot of details left to reveal, this trailer already tells fans everything they need to know.
The trailer begins with a charming storyteller narrating a tall tale about a man with tan skin and two swords, one black and one white. The description certainly seems to match that of Archer from Fate/Stay Night, but the trailer quickly moves on to a scene between Guinaifen and Sushang. Guinaifen recounts legendary tales about General Feixiao, which largely doubles as drip marketing for the upcoming character. The storyteller from before then recalls an iconic quote from the Fate series, "Are you my Master?"
Most of this early section's passing references are the sort of cutesy fanfare that the HoYoverse is more used to. By contrast, the latter half of the trailer sets the stage for what may just be Honkai: Star Rail's most ambitious crossover yet. A red flash of light flies by the Astral Express, and Pom Pom goes to investigate what he assumes is a disturbance caused by his rowdy crew. However, the game's mascot is surprised to instead find Archer himself stowed away in his cabin.
While Archer isn't seen directly in either portion of the trailer, Junichi Suwabe's voice is unmistakable, and suggests a lot about what fans can expect. Most importantly, it seems that Archer may become a playable character in a future update. This would be incredible for fans of the Fate series, and may far exceed the ambition of HoYoverse's previous collabs. Archer may even be joined by other characters from Fate/Stay Night, Master and Servant alike, but only time will tell if this potential pans out.
