A Honkai: Star Rail player turned one of the Aeons into a Grimace Shake. The viral meme that shows people falling unconscious and other morbid experiences after drinking a Grimace Birthday Shake has taken over various social media platforms over the past couple of weeks.
First introduced last June, McDonald's Grimace Birthday Shake is a purple berry-flavored drink that customers could buy with a Big Mac or chicken nuggets. Many netizens were hesitant to try the shake because of its color, but it eventually evolved into a morbidly bizarre meme. Even the official Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter page joined the Grimace Shake train.
The latest video game to be involved in the Grimace Shake meme was Honkai: Star Rail after Reddit user GTRTURTLE21 shared a photo of the Aeon IX turned into the viral drink. Known as the Aeon residing over the Path of Nihility, IX's appearance is a dark purple blob with eyes, making them the perfect subject for the meme. GTRTURTLE21 dubbed their creation the "GrimIX Shake," joking that IX was also berry-flavored like the original Grimace Shake. Plus, they explained that the Aeon was the perfect choice because Nihility events in the Simulated Universe usually drained units' HP.
In the comments, many Honkai: Star Rail players found the photo funny, and compared the GrimIX Shake to a Curio from the Simulated Universe. One Reddit user also joked that Pom-Pom made the shake for March 7 because the latter loved drinking juice. Another seemed to feel bad for IX being turned into a beverage.
According to Honkai: Star Rail lore, the Aeon IX was believed to be "peaceful" because they mostly kept to themselves. However, when a group of humans tried to attack IX, it was said that the Aeon killed all of them and didn't leave a trace. Although Aeons play a significant role in Honkai: Star Rail's story, players could encounter IX and the others in the Simulated Universe. Additionally, the game introduced a number of playable characters that follow the Path of Nihility, who all deal damage over time (DOT) and apply debuffs to enemies.
Like Honkai: Star Rail and Sonic the Hedgehog, there might be other people who are planning to incorporate their favorite video game franchises in the Grimace Shake meme in the near future. It could be as bizarre as the original meme, or they could create a relatively wholesome post similar to the GrimIX Shake.
Honkai: Star Rail is now available on Android, iOS, and PC. A PlayStation version is in development.
