There is only a limited amount of resources in a game of Homeworld 3. The settings can be changed to have more resources added throughout a game but the average settings have limited resources to add the challenge of getting to them quickly and managing them better than your opponent. Depending on the size of the map and the number of players resources can all be farmed and used up in only a few minutes making it important to get to them quickly.
While there is a limited number of resources to be farmed in a game players will still be able to get resources later on by salvaging ships. This process is risky but can quickly become the only source of resources in a final attempt to build a few more ships to win a game.
Homeworld 3: How To Place Turrets
Turrets can be placed to help defend a section of space in Homeworld 3; here's how they work.
How To Salvage Ships In Homeworld 3
Salvaging ships can only be done on remaining ship parts floating in space after a ship has been destroyed. Only a Capital class ship is big enough to break up into salvageable parts and is the final and largest ship class players can build. Both ally or enemy capital ships become parts to salvage resources from, letting players make up for a failure with a new ship or press the advantage after taking out their enemy's best asset. Ships that can be salvaged include:
- Carrier
- Destroyer
- Battlecruiser
The amount of resources from a piece of destroyed ship can be seen by hovering over the ship piece with your cursor. Only one player can attempt to salvage a ship piece at a time, requiring players to destroy another Resource Collector if they are close enough to begin the animation of collecting the salvage.
The parts from a destroyed capital ship will stay in their location and won't move until a Resource Collector comes and moves one. Once a capital ship has been destroyed, select a Resource Collector and press the Salvage command, hotkeyed to Control + U. Then select one of the ship parts labeled Salvage to have your Resource Collector travel to the salvage.
This process is much like capturing a ship, as the Resource Collector will need to carry the piece of salvage back to your Mothership in order to get the resources. It's best to have a strong patrol guarding the collector during this process as they will be heavily targeted by enemy ships. Should it be towards the end of a game, consider moving your Mothership closer to the salvage to have added protection and a shorter distance to travel for the collector.
