Fans have been questioning Amazon's decision to cancel Bosch: Legacy for several months now, and over 22,000 of them have signed the petition to save the show, and give the creative team the chance to end Harry Bosch's story properly. A short video of a Hollywood producer called Adam Leipzig explaining why he thinks Bosch: Legacy was canceled has resurfaced, and he thinks it all comes down to money.

Amazon have refused to give an official reason for canceling Bosch: Legacy, and they still insist it was a mutual decision to bring Harry Bosch's solo stories to an end after ten combined seasons of the original Bosch series and Legacy. However, the plan was always to introduce the Ballard spin-off as a companion to Bosch: Legacy, and not a replacement.

Bosch: Legacy Season 3's Teaser Is Great But It's Missing This One Thing

Amazon released a Bosch: Legacy season 3 teaser, upon announcing the release date, but it doesn't actually feature any new footage.

Adam Leipzig Thinks Bosch: Legacy's Cancelation Was Linked To Two Specific Money Reasons

Adam Leipzig is a successful Hollywood producer, who knows all about how business decisions are made at the higher echelons of Tinseltown, and he often shares his insights on his own YouTube channel. Soon after Bosch: Legacy's cancelation last year, Leipzig shared his opinion on why Amazon reached this decision and here is what he said:

The two real reasons Amazon just canceled Bosch: Legacy: Money and Money. Let Me Explain: Bosch: Legacy, great show, was the show that Amazon used to launch Freevee, which was its ad-supported streaming service. And it was really great, it was a big hit. But here we are at the end of season three, unexpectedly canceled. Money reason number one: when a show is really successful, and it's gone on multiple seasons, every season costs more. The writers cost more, the actors cost more, production costs more and, at a certain point, it just costs so much per episode, that the network just doesn't want to pay the money anymore. But here is the other big money reason: Amazon discovered they were competing with themselves because if you have Amazon Prime, you've probably already seen they've started running commercials on Amazon Prime, even though we're paying every month for it. Well, suddenly, Amazon Prime is competing with Freevee, and Freevee is not that different from Amazon Prime because everything is running commercials. And since Amazon was competing with itself, it just didn't make any sense for them.

Adam Leipzig is probably right: Bosch: Legacy's cancelation did come down to money, as, after all, Amazon is running a business, and they want to keep making money. However, Bosch: Legacy was making a profit, but it was also costing more to produce with each season. In their twisted logic, Amazon would rather make cheaper and less superior shows they can mold towards their advertising strategy, and sacrifice quality shows like Bosch: Legacy. Amazon shutdown Freevee because they didn't need it anymore due to commercials being introduced on Prime. They also figured they didn't need Bosch: Legacy after season 3, despite the exciting plans in place to expand Michael Connelly's crime universe, with the Renee Ballard spin-off, and the now axed Jerry Edgar solo show.

Amazon might view the cancelation of Bosch: Legacy as a cost-cutting measure now, but they'll regret it in many years to come when subscribers cancel the streaming service, because they are fed up with all the commercials, and the content isn't the same quality as it previously was. If Amazon invested in a few more seasons of Bosch: Legacy, it would also benefit the Ballard spin-off, and potentially launch more shows in the Bosch-verse. However, Amazon wants quick-fix content that they can cater to an ever increasingly agitated younger audience, who will view multiple screens at the same time. Amazon has wrongly come to the conclusion that their shows don't have to be great or even good. As long as they are making their money from what they consider to be an easily distracted audience, then that is good enough for them. However, a large percentage of the audience do switch off from the outside world to watch Bosch: Legacy and other high quality shows, but that isn't what Amazon are interested in. If audiences switch off, they won't spend money: it's as simple as that.
