Hollow Knight: Silksong features a wide range of endgame secrets and challenges. Some of the best are collectively known as Mementos, which are special items awarded for completing hidden bosses and mini-games. One such item is the Grey Memento, which is awarded for defeating the Watcher at the Edge, a late-game boss that can only be found once you've started Act 3 and collected the Silk Soar ability. In this guide, we'll show you where to find the Watcher at the Edge in Silksong, and how to get the Grey Memento.
All Memory Locket Locations in Silksong
There are 20 Memory Lockets in Hollow Knight: Silksong, and this guide details the location of every one of those collectibles.
Where to FInd the Watcher at the Edge in Silksong
Sands of Karak:
To locate the Watcher at the Edge in Silksong, you'll first need to unlock the Sands of Karak region, then collect the Silk Soar ability in Silksong's third act, Abyss.
Once you have the
Silk Soar ability, you'll want to return to the main corridor leading along the southwest section of the Sands of Karak. There, you'll need to locate the correct seed, and use it to reach a hidden area.
The first seed sends branches to the east and west. You'll want to follow the branch to the west, which will provide a path to the second seed, which is hidden in the ceiling of the cavern.
Hit the second seed, and it will provide a path to the hidden area.
Once you are in the hidden area, head to the edge of the small platform on the left, then use Silk Soar to reach the upper area.
After using Silk Soar, head left (west) until you reach the Watcher at the Edge, who appears to be a statue standing in a sandstorm. Play the
Needolin to wake the sleeping boss. This will immediately begin the fight.
How to Defeat the Watcher at the Edge in Silksong
Our Loadout:
-
Crest: Crest o
Wanderer Crest
-
Red Tool:
Tacks
-
Yellow Tools:
Magnetite Dice
-
Blue Tools:
Injector Band,
Longclaw,
Druid's Eyes
For this fight, we prefer an extremely fast attack, so we opted for the Wanderer Crest, which is essentially the Nail from Hollow Knight. We added Longclaw to make up for the shorter blade, Injector Band to heal safely during the fast-paced fight, and Druid's Eyes, so even our mistakes would have benefits (silk accrued on damage taken). Finally, we used Tacks, as the Watcher lunges across the ground, making him extremely vulnerable to this tool.
We'd recommend upgrading the Needle at least three times. The fight is already tough, so there is no need to punish yourself by using a weak weapon. For this same reason, try to enter the fight with at least 8 Masks. Now that you have Silk Soar, there is no reason you can't collect all 20 of SIlksong's Mask Shards. 8 is simply the lowest we'd recommend.
Watcher at the Edge Fight Breakdown:
The Watcher at the Edge fight is not overly intricate, but they are capable of doing a tremendous amount of damage very quickly, so you've got to pay close attention throughout the fight. Luckily, while they can be staggered, they only have one true phase, and their moveset stays consistent throughout the fight.
- The first major factor you need to watch for is the sheer length of the Watcher's blade. It is far longer than it appears, and can easily trick you into thinking you have plenty of space, when in fact you do not. Always give yourself more room than you think you'll need to avoid their attacks.
- The best way to punish the Watcher's massive swings, is to wait for the sword to hit the ground, then pogo attack their head, then go up and over, and quickly attack from behind. Never try for more than two hits, as they will always punish you.
- Be very careful not to spend too much time in the air, and never jump when the Watcher is in a clear defensive position, like the pose pictured above.
- The defensive position shown is almost always a precursor to a massive jump attack that will make you pay if you jump into it.
- You'll also want to watch for the Watcher diving into the sand. When this happens, sand will begin to burst from the area in which the Watcher will emerge. They will perform a massive attack, similar to their jumping attack, so stay clear.
- Remember - use Tacks or other ground-based tools. This will often be the difference between a successful fight and a failure.
Once you've defeated the Watcher at the Edge, you'll automatically receive the Grey Memento, one of Silksong's eight Mementos that can be displayed at the Bellhome.
