The Steam page for Hollow Knight: Silksong has been updated ahead of Summer Game Fest, with the changes inspiring hope in the highly anticipated game's community. Announced over six years ago, Hollow Knight: Silksong has become somewhat of a meme in the gaming sphere, with many fans becoming skeptical that the project will ever see the light of day.
Silksong's development has been lengthy, with Team Cherry first announcing that the game would be released in 2023. After a delay, the studio went quiet for nearly a year before providing an update in January 2025. According to Matthew Griffin, Team Cherry's head of marketing and publishing, work on Hollow Knight: Silksong is progressing, though no further details were provided. Fans were frustrated when the title wasn't featured at either Gamescom 2024 or The Game Awards 2024, but the Silksong drought may soon be over, as some big updates have been made behind the scenes ahead of this year's summer festivities.
Hollow Knight: Silksong on Switch 2 Could Take a Page Out of Cyberpunk 2077's Book
With Hollow Knight: Silksong making its way to the Switch 2, perhaps it should consider following Cyberpunk 2077's lead with one console feature.
As spotted by Eurogamer, Twitter user Wario64 recently shared some images from SteamDB that show new updates made to Hollow Knight: Silksong, with one package being altered for the first time in 15 months. Additionally, Reddit user TomNook5058 confirmed that some version of Silksong has been officially uploaded to the Steam servers. While Team Cherry has yet to make any official statement, many fans now believe that Hollow Knight: Silksong's release date will be shared during Summer Game Fest, while others think it will be shadow dropped following the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5.
Hollow Knight: Silksong Updated on Steam Ahead of Summer Game Fest and Switch 2 Release
It's unclear whether these Steam updates confirm any impending action or not, but changes having been made to the Metroidvania's files so close to one of gaming's largest presentations and the Switch 2's release is suspicious to many fans. While there is no official release date for players everywhere, Hollow Knight: Silksong will be playable in September at ACMI, Australia's national museum of screen culture. At least portions of the game will appear as part of the Game Worlds exhibition, which will showcase concept art and interactive displays from around 30 titles.
Fans can tune into Summer Game Fest on June 6 at 5 PM ET / 2 PM PT to see some of the biggest games set to release over the next year and beyond, with featured titles including Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, Chrono Odyssey, The Outer Worlds 2, and many more. Rumors also point to Resident Evil 9 potentially being revealed at the event.
