It’s been about a week now, and dust is finally starting to settle around Hollow Knight: Silksong. That doesn’t mean fans are ready to shelve it, but more players have had a chance to finish their first playthrough at least. Team Cherry has said they plan to support the game with content over the years, but how that will manifest is a mystery. That said, Hollow Knight was well-supported with DLC.

Will Team Cherry support Silksong with free updates akin to Stardew Valley, which has been updating since it launched in 2016? Will they launch paid DLC for the game instead, like Dead Cells, which also had a lengthy run of support? In the latter scenario, here are some places the DLC could go in Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Silksong: Best Tips for Beginners

These eight best Silksong beginner tips will help both new players and veterans find their footing in Pharloom's haunted lands.

Go Back To Hollownest

Pull A Pokemon Gold/Silver

Riding an elevator in Deep Docks in Hollow Knight Silksong

One of the coolest surprises in a video game ever was in Pokemon Gold and Pokemon Silver. After players completed their journey in Johto, they could return to the previous area, Kanto, with their current character and setup. A new, secret campaign tacked onto the original game was unheard of back then, and it would be cool to get that surprise in Hollow Knight: Silksong too.

While there is a surprise of sorts regarding Act 3 in Silksong, it will not take players to Hollownest, the location from the first game. While it’s not present now, Team Cherry could add it to the DLC roster. It would make sense thematically, as Hornet was kidnapped and brought to a new land, Pharloom. She, of course, needs to get home somehow, and at the end of that journey, Hollownest could be waiting.

The Return Home

Getting There Is Half The Battle

Finding a locked door in Hollow Knight Silksong

Before players can make it home to Hollownest, they would probably need to go through some trials. It presumably wasn’t a short journey to Pharloom, meaning the journey home could be as big as either Hollownest or Pharloom in terms of map size. Team Cherry could even play with outside environments, of which there aren’t many in the main game currently, except for Silksong’s dreadfully challenging Mount Fay.

Hornet and The Knight from the Hollow Knight series
Silksong: Things Hornet Can Do That The Knight Can't

She may be tall, but Hornet’s height in Hollow Knight: Silksong is not the only distinct advantage she has over The Knight from Hollow Knight.

Perhaps the game could introduce new anthropomorphic creatures too, like furry animals, although that may be challenging since the world is miniature in scale, thanks to everyone being bugs. While the animal aspect may not be doable, the in-between journey would be a solid way to bridge the gap between Hollownest and Pharloom.

Boss Rush

Replay Through Your Trauma

Not all games get this feature, but enough have that it is well-known: the boss rush. Giving players a way to fight some of their favorite bosses in Hollow Knight: Silksong from the main menu would be great. As challenging as some of these encounters are, like the Last Judge and the Savage Beastfly, there are others that players would love to relive. The Widow and the Fourth Chorus are two great examples, but everyone will have their favorites.

It would also be a good training exercise to give players a way to practice bosses they have already faced without the encumbrance of the run-up to bosses, a feature which hopefully gets patched soon into Silksong. There is a harder mode in the game, which is why practicing would be helpful. Whether players dislike the bosses or not, they are some of the best elements of the game, and a boss rush would help highlight them more.

Play As New Characters

But, Don’t Pull Another Silksong

It’s become infamous now, but Silksong started as DLC for Hollow Knight, which was going to star Hornet as a second playable character. Team Cherry got so wrapped up in developing the DLC that it became its own standalone game. That’s the best-case scenario for any DLC. After all, Silksong is much bigger than the original Hollow Knight. While the Hornet DLC could have been fun, a new game is always going to be better, even if it takes a while to get that game out.

With that in mind, more playable characters for Silksong are assuredly on the minds of Team Cherry’s developers. Shakra would be a good choice, as she already has programmed combat skills in the game, and comes to the aid of Hornet several times. There’s also Garmond and Zaza, who also help Hornet along her journey. Both would be fun characters to play through in the same map or a new area.

A New Area Set Up Like A Roguelike

Dive Into Darkness

Talking to Jubilana in Hollow Knight Silksong

This idea is a bit more wild, but Team Cherry could create a new area and make that separate from the rest of the game. This area could then be set up as a roguelike. God of War: Ragnarok added a roguelike mode post-game and was well-liked. Hollow Knight: Silksong already has areas with randomness thrown in, like The Mist, so it’s not out of the ordinary. Hornet would not have to be the star either. Team Cherry could focus on lesser-armed characters to give them their day in the sun, like Jubilana.

Whether they’re in the game for a long time or leave after a quick introduction, these NPCs stand out in Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Jubilana is a shopkeeper who disappears several times in Songclave, questing for new wares for their shop. Players could progress through randomly generated dungeons, pick up loot with Jubilana, and then sell it to adventuring pilgrims, similar to Moonlighter, a roguelike with both action and shopkeeping mechanics. Since Jubilana can’t fight, it could be more of a stealth-based roguelike. Between Hornet and Jubilana, there are good ideas to turn Hollow Knight: Silksong into a solid roguelike.

Let The Crossovers Roll

Team Up With Other Indies

Hollow Knight collaborated with a lot of indie titles to get some Easter eggs and content thrown into their games. Dead Cells got items, The Binding of Isaac got cards, and weirdest of all, Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes got a wearable shirt. Indie developers collaborate with each other all the time, and Hollow Knight: Silksong will assuredly wind up referenced in games too. Silksong should also get weird with DLC and updates and pull some favors.

Mina the Hollower is a good example of an upcoming indie game, as that titular character, Mina, is a small mouse who would fit in with the world of Pharloom. Maybe she could be an NPC that players could get quests from or fight, or perhaps weapons could get added into Silksong from the game. Whether players get items from other indie games, meet NPCs, or get skins, the opportunities are there for Team Cherry to strike up some deals.
