The veil has finally been lifted, as Hollow Knight: Silksong has a release date set in stone, and it's right around the corner. The long-anticipated launch of Hollow Knight: Silksong is now only a mere two weeks away, making the announcement one of the biggest reveals at this year's Gamescom. Seven years of development and six years of continuous theories, speculation, and rumors can now finally be put to rest.
It almost doesn't feel real, but Silksong will finally make 2025 its launch year. Leading up to Gamescom, there was plenty of hope that Silksong would make itself known in some capacity, but after years of delays and silence from developer Team Cherry, it was hard to feel fully optimistic. Thankfully, the wait is finally almost over, and the sequel's release date teaches an important lesson to gamers and the industry as a whole.
Hollow Knight: Silksong officially launches on September 4.
Hollow Knight: Silksong's Release Date Reminds Fans That Sometimes It's Best to Prepare for the Unexpected
September 4 is a Wonderfully Unremarkable Date
In the years since Silksong was announced, gamers and industry pros have been driving themselves wild trying to predict when the sequel will launch. The first Hollow Knight's release date, the anniversary of the announcement trailer, and the launch of brand-new consoles like the Switch 2 have all been past theories regarding Silksong's launch. This is merely the tip of the iceberg, too. Gamescom's Opening Night Live event already ignited excitement when it was confirmed that Silksong would definitely launch in 2025, but little did everyone know, it's less than a month away.
September 4 holds no major connection to the Hollow Knight franchise, and the release date's lack of meaning is a hilarious reminder that we were all clearly thinking way too hard about it. With such hype surrounding the sequel, it's understandable why so many theories and rumors popped up, but it's also funny to see just how wrong everyone was.
Silksong will be available for both Nintendo Switch consoles, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. The game will also be on Xbox Game Pass.
Silksong's Release Date Isn't the Only Lesson to Be Learned
After such a long development cycle shrouded in secrecy and silence, some were beginning to lose hope in Team Cherry's vision. With the devs keeping tight-lipped about how production was going, some have even floated the idea that the game would eventually be canceled. Thankfully, this clearly isn't the case, and if Silksong's release announcement offers any important lesson, it's that Team Cherry is a developer of its word.
The Hollow Knight fan base has even resorted to hilarious stunts in the past, like a fake sacrificial ritual on Reddit, in the hopes of making a Silksong announcement a reality. As the memes continued to pile up, Team Cherry was hard at work on the sequel this whole time. Yes, the wait was long, but it's also fantastic that the dev team allowed themselves the time they needed in order to get across the finish line, even if it did drive corners of the internet mad.
Hollow Knight: Silksong Adds to an Already-Stellar Year
Whether it's a highly anticipated indie sequel like Silksong or AAA bangers like Death Stranding 2 and Assassin's Creed Shadows, 2025 is filled to the brim with great offerings. Now that Silksong is being thrown into the mix, this year's Game Awards could be shaping up to be one of the biggest the industry has seen yet. Gamers finally have an official date to look forward to with Silksong, and these next two weeks are the perfect chance to jump back into Hollow Knight to get a refresher.
