Hollow Knight: Silksong was once believed to be nonexistent due to how sparse its news was. Not long ago, in fact, it would be laughable to predict that Hollow Knight: Silksong may appear anywhere due to how often it eluded such events, leading to Geoff Keighley weighing in on fans’ ‘copium’ while bait-and-switching a hypothetical Hollow Knight: Silksong trailer with a reveal trailer for Marvel’s Deadpool VR at Summer Game Fest 2025. Thankfully, low-hanging jokes and perpetual disappointment are soon to be squashed with Hollow Knight: Silksong appearing in not one but two demo showcases in the next two months, and its actual release date may not be much further off, either.
Hollow Knight: Silksong’s Nintendo Direct No-Show is a Bummer, But You Don’t Have to Worry
Hollow Knight: Silksong may have once more evaded an event it was expected to appear at, but it won't be bobbing and weaving for much longer.
Hollow Knight: Silksong Has a Playable Demo at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany
- gamescom in Cologne, Germany, from August 20, 2025, to August 24, 2025.
The first opportunity that gamers have to get their hands on Hollow Knight: Silksong is no later than the end of this month. Hollow Knight: Silksong has a playable demo scheduled for gamescom in Cologne, Germany, though it’s not yet disclosed how much of the game it intends to reveal.
It’s fully possible that this demo could simply be a repeat showing of what fans played at E3 2019’s Nintendo Treehouse: Live showcase, but it’s presumed that a new area of the game, including new characters, bosses, and gameplay mechanics previously unseen will be put on display to commemorate how long of a wait it’s been since players have seen the Hollow Knight sequel in the flesh.
Hollow Knight: Silksong Has a Playable Exhibit at ACMI in Melbourne, Australia
- Melbourne, Australia’s Game Worlds exhibition at ACMI (the Australian Centre for the Moving Image) from September 18, 2025, to February 8, 2025
Maybe overlooked by some gamers or unbeknownst to others, gamescom won’t be the only event in the near future where Hollow Knight: Silksong is confirmed to appear in a huge capacity. Indeed, maybe even more paramount than its showing at gamescom a month or so earlier, Hollow Knight: Silksong will be at Melbourne, Australia’s Game Worlds exhibition at ACMI (the Australian Centre for the Moving Image).
Hollow Knight: Silksong’s presence here seems truly significant as it’s intended as a deep dive into design elements, rather than a lone demo. Hollow Knight: Silksong’s release date isn’t any clearer with confirmation of this September–February outing, since it will also be playable at the end of August with no announcement or reveal of launching this month, but it’s certainly possible that its release could be tailored to this months-long exhibition’s kick-off, particularly if Hollow Knight: Silksong has wholly committed to a 2025 release.
Hollow Knight: Silksong May Launch in the Next Several Months
Playable slices of Hollow Knight: Silksong appearing at two different events in the span of one month is surely cause for excitement and would undoubtedly discern that Team Cherry’s elusive darling is definitely slated for a 2025 window. How late in the year it plans to launch remains a mystery, but with monumentally impactful appearances lined up in the next two months, it shouldn’t be a much longer wait until all players have access to it on the available platform(s) of their choice. Late September would be phenomenal as it could then coincide with a launch around the time of the Melbourne museum’s displays for anyone interested in its design philosophies.
Still, it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility to imagine an early September launch that can then be celebrated by the museum’s exhibition, which does last nearly five months.
Otherwise, gamers should nonetheless steel themselves for a possible October, November, or December release date, and even a last-minute delay if some unforeseen circumstance befalls it. In the meantime, gamescom and the ACMI Game Worlds exhibit prove that Hollow Knight: Silksong is real and manifesting before players’ eyes, even if they find themselves on the other side of the globe from these events and won’t be able to attend them themselves.
