Hollow Knight: Silksong will come to the original Switch when Team Cherry finally releases it, its Marketing and PR Director has confirmed. After a long period of silence, news around the hotly anticipated Metroidvania sequel is starting to pick up again, thanks to a short but impactful announcement during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct. While a specific release day is still up in the air, Switch users can rest easy knowing they'll also be able to play Hollow Knight: Silksong when it comes out later this year.

Nintendo's Switch 2 presentation was full to the brim with game announcements, but arguably one of the biggest was the reveal that the second Hollow Knight game is coming to the platform. The brief appearance also confirmed that Silksong will come out in 2025, although the month and day are still uncertain. As exciting as the update was for fans, it left some questioning where the game stands in terms of the original Switch, but Team Cherry has now cleared things up.

Matthew Griffin, who handles Silksong's marketing and publishing, took to Twitter on April 7 to clarify that OG Switch owners will still get the game when it launches. It's not necessarily a surprise, as the original Hollow Knight was also available on Switch, but it's nice to have official confirmation that Nintendo fans won't need to upgrade their hardware to play the sequel. The Switch 2's pricing has drawn plenty of controversy, both for the console itself and its games, so some players will doubtlessly want to stick to the first Switch if they can.

Even if the title wasn't going to come to the Switch, fans will still likely have plenty of options. Apart from the usual suspects like Xbox, PlayStation, and Steam, a recent update confirmed that Hollow Knight: Silksong will be available on GeForce Now, so even players who prefer cloud gaming can experience it on their platform of choice. Team Cherry's much-hyped sequel will be a day-one release on Xbox Game Pass, too, so some fans won't even need to pay for the title separately to play it once it comes out.

As for when that day will come, things are less clear. While the Switch 2 presentation reaffirmed that the game is aiming for a 2025 release, that leaves plenty of room for interpretation. A trusted leaker recently claimed that Silksong will come out in June 2025 "at the latest," which is in line with the Switch 2's release window. If that's true, the game could be available on the new console at launch, although fans should take any unofficial claims like this with a grain of salt. Given recent signs, though, gamers may not need to wait too long before Hollow Knight: Silksong finally comes out.
