Team Cherry has recently revealed that the “enhanced” Switch 2 version of Hollow Knight: Silksong will be free to download. This is excellent news for Nintendo Switch 2 owners who want to play Hollow Knight: Silksong, as many other games require players to purchase upgrades before utilizing Switch 2-specific features.
Hollow Knight: Silksong is certainly one of the most eagerly awaited games of 2025. After around seven years in development, it was revealed during Gamescom 2025 that Hollow Knight: Silksong will finally be released on September 4.
Why You Should Play Hollow Knight: Silksong on PC
Hollow Knight: Silksong will be available on all modern platforms, but there is one big reason for players to pick it up for PC.
How to Unlock 'Enhanced' Switch 2 Version for Hollow Knight: Silksong
- Acquire, download and install Hollow Knight: Silksong on a Nintendo Switch 2.
- Visit the Nintendo eShop.
- Download and install the free Hollow Knight: Silksong Upgrade Pack.
In a recent update on Kickstarter, Team Cherry informed backers that Nintendo Switch keys would be sent via email to anyone who selected the platform. Nintendo Switch 2 owners who wanted to play the game with “enhanced features” would need to install Hollow Knight: Silksong, visit the eShop, and then download the free Hollow Knight: Silksong Upgrade Pack. While Team Cherry has not specifically said that the upgrade will be free to all users, this is heavily implied in the message, so gamers who purchase the title can expect it to cost the same as the original Switch and Nintendo’s newest console. It’s still unknown what kind of exclusive features the Switch 2 version of Hollow Knight: Silksong will have, though.
Surprisingly, Hollow Knight: Silksong will cost only $20, as confirmed by Team Cherry recently. When it was released in 2017, the original Hollow Knight cost only $15, so the sequel has effectively the same price, considering inflation. Despite the arguably low price, Silksong is expected to be larger than the original Hollow Knight, as Team Cherry previously commented about the large scope of the game during the years of development.
The expectations for Silksong are very high, and the title will likely be a huge hit. Last month, the original Hollow Knight broke its player count peak on Steam soon after the release date of the sequel was announced, reaching over 45,000 players. It’s expected that the hype will be seen equally across all platforms, including the Switch, especially considering how popular the first game was on Nintendo’s platform.
As the release date approaches, at least seven games have been delayed because of Hollow Knight: Silksong. The list includes Aeterna Lucis, Baby Steps, CloverPit, Demonschool, Faeland, Little Witch in the Woods, and Megabonk. While it’s sad to see these titles being delayed, it was likely in the devs’ best interest to do so, as Silksong is expected to suck up all the attention during the week.
