While there's still no major news regarding the state of Hollow Knight: Silksong, there is hope that its developer, Team Cherry, is working on its important elements. Being set in the kingdom of Pharloom, the game is expected to have a lot of new enemies, environments, and items. Also, it's likely to take a lot of inspiration from the qualities that made its predecessor so successful, as not doing so would just be a wasted opportunity. But if Silksong is going to do that, then there's one small thing it should not forget to take from the original Hollow Knight, as it helped make the game feel light despite the heavy atmosphere.
Given that Silksong is a sequel to Team Cherry's most successful creation, one can expect it to have a dark and serious tone to its narrative. Although it helps in telling a great story, one must remember that the original Hollow Knight also had moments of humor that kept it from being too heavy. Whenever the game had time to be funny, it did so in a way that didn't feel unnatural and showed that there is more to the characters aside from being entities who are depressed due to the current state of their world. Silksong should definitely have that as it would help enhance its own in-game world just as it did with its predecessor.
Silksong Shouldn't Let Hollow Knight Bosses Go To Waste
Hollow Knight: Silksong's predecessor has much it can offer to help improve its sequel, and boss fights could be one of those things.
How Silksong Can Have Its Own Moments of Humor
Even with the world of Hollow Knight being damp and depressing, it still manages to slide in a few funny moments here and there, allowing players to find temporary reprieve from all the seriousness. If Silksong is going to have some of its own, then there are a few ways it can do it naturally:
- Utilizing Silksong's new quest system to introduce NPCs with comedic tasks that can either provide actual benefits when completed or nothing in compensation for one's time
- Having a funny rival character like Zote from the original Hollow Knight, who can be a mix of comedic relief while also being a potentially dangerous enemy
- Introducing a new area that's meant as a getaway from the gloomy world and has nothing but NPCs who have funny and witty dialogue, as the game's larger environments can actually allow for it
While Silksong shouldn't have too many moments of humor, it needs to have at least a good amount. Hopefully, Team Cherry will look back at how it implemented them effectively in Hollow Knight, and do the same for the sequel.
Why It’s Important That Silksong Has Moments of Humor
As great as the story of Hollow Knight was, it wouldn't be as fondly remembered if it weren't for those moments of humor. If the game had focused too much on its serious and depressing narrative, players likely would have tuned out of it, as an overwhelmingly dark atmosphere would have overshadowed nearly everything else. With Silksong intended to be much larger than its predecessor, it's going to need those moments of humor even more, as its own story might be even darker. One must also remember that Hollow Knight had the perfect balance of seriousness and comedic relief, as it had only a few moments of the latter to ensure it didn't take too much attention away from the narrative, keeping people engaged and interested as they played. Team Cherry will need to do the same for the sequel if it wants to repeat the success of its predecessor, and hopefully, it does.
With news regarding a short update on Silksong's development, supporters of the game have been given new hope and fondly believe that its developer is taking its time crafting its next masterpiece. If Team Cherry is looking back on what it can do to make the sequel better and successful upon release, then sprinkling the game with moments of humor is one, as the original Hollow Knight proved how good doing so can be.
