Hollow Knight: Silksong has quickly become one of the most anticipated games currently in development. Announced back in 2019, Hollow Knight: Silksong seemed on track to be released within the next few years, but developer Team Cherry has gone silent about updates. As of now, there is no official confirmation from Team Cherry about when Silksong will be ready, which has made the wait grueling for some.

Since Silksong missed its 2023 window, the production has been incredibly secretive. This, of course, has fueled a lot of speculation among industry insiders and gamers. Those eager for Silksong's release have continued to get their hopes up, but the knowledge that the game is at least still in production is a positive sign. With another year nearing its close, many have theorized that Silksong will make an appearance at this year's Game Awards. Although this is possible, it may be wishful thinking. There is one thing that is practically certain, though. Geoff Keighley will know when Silksong is ready.

An Official Version of One Hollow Knight Mod Would Be a Game-Changer For Silksong

If Hollow Knight: Silksong wants to come out in a big way, then perhaps it should consider having a feature that its predecessor had via a mod.

Geoff Keighley's Gaming Events Set the Stage For an Upcoming Silksong Announcement

Geoff Keighley's History of Bringing Silksong News

Since Team Cherry went silent, most of the updates about the game have been through Geoff Keighley. Through the years, Keighley has become an essential spokesperson and showrunner for gaming events. After he confirmed that Silksong would not be present at Gamescom's Opening Night Live, many hopeful fans set their sights on The Game Awards. This would be the perfect event for Team Cherry to finally unveil a release date for Silksong, but it seems to be a slim chance.

As the point man of so many important gaming events, once Silksong is set to be announced, Keighley will know about it. That means that there is indeed the chance that The Game Awards could bring some good news, but past comments from Keighley himself seem to debunk this. Back in June, Keighley mentioned in a Q&A for Summer Game Fest 2024 that he thought the wait for Silksong would "be a while", after the chat was filled with questions about the game's possible presence at the event. Of course, this brings up the question of what Keighley's definition of "a while" is. The vagueness of the answer is likely strategic, since it would be unwise to ignite false hope. However, "a while" could be anything from a few months to even years.

Hollow Knight launched back in 2017 to great success. By the time Team Cherry announced Silksong two years later, its predecessor had sold an estimated 2.8 million copies.

Since the time between Summer Game Fest and The Game Awards is half a year, that could still fall under Keighley's predictions of the game likely taking some time. Therefore, a fresh Silksong reveal at The Game Awards can't be fully taken off the table.

If Silksong Skips The Game Awards, the Next Possible Event to Target is Clear

The Game Awards are the apex of yearly gaming events, but Keighley's Summer Game Fest is nearly just as important to the industry. This summer showcase sets the stage for a lot of major announcements, and this would be the next likely target Team Cherry would have if it can't make The Game Awards work. If this is the case, it would be wild for Silksong to be re-announced two full years after its targeted 2023 release date, but there would at least be an official update. Because of Team Cherry's small team size, the long wait is understandable, and once more news finally breaks, it will likely create a frenzy.

Despite the trailers and music score reveals, a lot of Silksong is still a mystery, which only adds to the anticipation. There is no clear way to know when Silksong will finally reveal its next big update, but it's highly likely that Geoff Keighley will be one of the first to know.
