Just like in the original game, players can find a lot of shopkeepers in Hollow Knight: Silksong. Most of them are original, one-off characters, and others return to sell their wares. Some rank among the best shopkeepers in video games, while others are less memorable. Primarily, there is one major currency, Rosaries, but Shell Shards can also be used for quests and some purchases.
At first, it seems like Rosaries are a rare commodity in Hollow Knight: Silksong that are exclusive to hidden spots in the world. Fairly quickly, players will realize they can farm them from certain creatures pretty easily. Farming spots aside, players should still be discerning of what they should spend their Rosaries on.
Silksong: Best Tips for Beginners
These eight best Silksong beginner tips will help both new players and veterans find their footing in Pharloom's haunted lands.
Maps
Find Your Way Around Pharloom More Easily
The map vendor of Hollow Knight: Silksong is Shakra, a tall bug who has a talent for wielding rings. Players can always find her on a map if they start to see her rings around the environment, indicating she is near. She can first be located in The Marrow, but every biome after that will be different, including Hunter’s March, Deep Docks, Far Fields, and so on.
Accessories for maps will be good too, like the Quill, along with map icons, including the Bench Rest. Randomly placed tokens, like the Shell Marker, aren’t necessary, as players can take their own notes more effectively. For example, taking a screenshot of a place players can’t access yet, from doors to gaps.
Tools
Arm Hornet With a Little Extra Sting
Hornet’s main weapon is her long Needle, which will serve players untouched for most of the game. Eventually, players can buy Tools that serve as sub-weapons, like in other Metroidvania games. For example, the first one many will come across will be in Forge Daughter’s shop within Deep Docks. Sting Shard will be a trap that, when deployed, will trigger spikes to shoot across the room.
Traps will regenerate once players reach a bench to rest on, provided they have enough Shell Shards. Tools won’t do as much damage to bosses, but they are good for crowd control when hordes of monsters start to encroach. Most Tools in Hollow Knight: Silksong can be found or gained through side quests, but when one pops up in a store, no matter how expensive, players should get it.
Trinkets
Dress to Kill
Trinkets can give Hornet an extra edge in battle or while exploring. Like Tools, they must be equipped at benches and come in a wide array of effects, sometimes singular in use, but they should always be purchased. For example, Pebb in Bone Bottom has the Magnetite Brooch, which can gather Rosaries in a jiffy. Shakra, wherever she is located, will carry the Compass until players buy it, which will show exactly where Hornet is on the map.
Without it, maps can be pretty useless (unless players are really good at looking at Metroidvania map layouts). Forge Daughter in Deep Docks has the Magma Bell, which is only useful in Deep Docks, but it can allow players to walk on specific lava-based floors temporarily. Finally, Mort in Far Fields has the Weighted Belt, which can prevent Hornet from being pushed back in combat. While expressive, Trinkets like these will serve players well.
Stat Boosts
Restore Hornet to Full Strength
There are very few ways to boost Hornet’s stats, which keeps the difficulty high for a Metroidvania. That’s why every stat or gear boost for Hornet can be game-changing for players. In Bone Bottom, Pebb has one Mask Shard, and when four are collected, Hornet’s health will increase. It’s a similar health system to Zelda games, wherein Link can collect Heart Pieces to gain a new Heart for his health. Unlike Zelda games, though, there aren’t as many Mask Shards in Hollow Knight: Silksong to increase health, which is why they are so precious.
Moving on to Deep Docks, Forge Daughter has the Crafting Kit, which can slightly increase effectiveness for Tools in Hollow Knight: Silksong. Finally, Mort in Far Fields has two great items that can aid Hornet. The Tool Pouch will increase the ammo count for Tools and let players carry a hundred more Shell Shards with them. The Memory Locket is even more important as it can unlock nodes in Crests. Most Crests in Silksong will start with one slot for Tools, and one slot for blue and yellow Trinkets, totaling three. Memory Lockets can unlock an extra node for each of these categories, giving players six slots to tinker with.

Rare Items
You Never Know When Something Will Come in Handy
Lastly, there are rare items that can sometimes be very expensive but are well worth it, as they have a limited quantity. For the early hours of Hollow Knight: Silksong, Pebb is the only example, located once again in Bone Bottom. He has Craftmetal, which is needed for some bartering systems as an extra piece of currency.
His rarest treasure in Hollow Knight: Silksong is the Simple Key, which can unlock hidden areas within established biomes. For example, players can gain access to a more challenging area of Deep Docks with the Simple Key. When locked doors are found that need Simple Keys, players should make a note via the aforementioned screenshot trick. It’s a great tip for navigating any Metroidvania out there.
